I have an iPad Gen 7 with 128G storage. The battery life is still great. My question I have is it worth upgrading to a new ipad now? I do no gaming, just you tube, video streaming, banking, and web browsing. I'm retired on a limited budget so I don't want to waste money. My only concern is how much longer will it get IpadOS updates. Hopefully it will get at least IpadOS 17.

For that use, your iPad should be fine. It seems like you’re happy with it.

Considering you don't seem to have any complaints, just replace it once the iPad or the apps you use stop working. There'll probably be something even better available once the iPad stops performing adequately for your use.

I have a 2021 iPP myself and I just can't see Apple releasing anything that would make me want to replace it within the next 5 years.

Since the 7th gen only came out 3 years ago, and the 5th gen is still being supported on iPadOS 16 I would say it will get iPadOS 17 at a minimum (which would be a full 5 years of software updates), and after that Apple will probably still give it security updates for a year or two, so I'd just hang onto it as long as it suits your needs and is working well.

I would keep it. Similar situation here, and my iPad gen 5 is just fine for these needs. And still supported under the latest, recently released IOS too.

Would an OLED screen tempt you? Provided it keeps the same brightness levels the current iPad has?

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll just keep using my Gen 7. It is still working fine for me. I just hope it gets a few more iPadOS system updates.

So even if the gen 7 gets no more iPadOS system updates how long does Apple usually provide security updates?
