I'm in the market for a new iPad. I had the IPA 2 and it recently died. The lowest level iPad will probably suit me fine but I have reservations due to it not having an anti-reflective coating. I like to read on it in my back yard. Will there be a big difference in iPads with, and without, the coating? I should mention that when I read I invert the colors so I'm reading white letters on a black background. I find that I can't see my floaters when I do it this way. Thanks.

I tried the base model iPad and I couldn't get past the glare when using it outside. After that experience, I am sold on the antireflective models. For me, it was a noticeable difference. The laminated display is much better too

The iPad mini 5 has an anti-reflective coating and is great for reading.

Thanks to all for that. I'm not a fan of adding anything to the front of any of my devices. I'll probably opt for either the Air or Mini. Both seem to be basically the same, other than size. Plus, I've seen rumors of a larger mini coming so I'll have to consider that possible option.

You will find that while those screens will deal with glare better, you may find the fingerprint smudges to be distracting when not outdoors. Regardless of which model you buy, I highly recommend getting a matte screen protector... not only will it handle the glare from outside, but it prevents fingerprint smudges from being noticeable indoors, causes it to have less resistance when using your fingers, but more resistance when using an Apple Pencil.
