Ok, obviously no one knows this for sure but....... Is it possible to get GPS through the AGPS that is in the ipad without actually using the 3g? I know iphones have a-gps so would it be even possible to test this theroy? for me i'd pay the extra 130 for the gps functionality alone if this were possible.

External GPS?
I am hoping that those who buy the non 3g GPS can plug in an external GPS receiver.
A bunch of interest in this product is from the aviation industry, to turn the iPad into an electronic flight bag.
Due to the banking of the aircraft during flight, an external mounted GPS antenna will work much better than an internal one within the iPad. Also, cell phones are not suppose to be used while in flight because of FCC rules (I think) which on the iphone also turns off the GPS be default in "airplane mode."
I am hopeful a plug in GPS unit (does the iPod touch have one?) will allow a GPS to be used with the wifi model only, and those who do not wish to subscribe to 3g service.
I think we will just have to wait and see.

I am most likely going to get the 3G version, but I'm not really tempted to get the unlimited data plan. I am also hoping that the GPS s/w vendors come up with specific iPad packages that will effectively use its larger screen. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
It probably will work. What I'm wondering is if u have the SIM inside it and pay a months worth and then cancel it, does the iPad still communicate with the cell towers even though u have no active service.
