I have been using the iPad lately, with iSM, to watch the stock market. A coworker said that he didn't see paying that much for a device. I told him that in a couple days my iPad will be free.

I was watching THC and they posted their quarterly earnings and also increased their outlook for the next two quarters. The same day economic data was released that dropped the market. I got into THC (4000x4.29) and sold it a couple minutes ago (4000x4.61).

He is on his way to NYC to pick one up as I write this.

Wait... wait... the mocks your iPad. You then proceed to completely pwn him and you're gonna give him a free iPad?

Who said iPad owners were elitist snobs?

I guess you didn't read it closely enough.

His friend is going to buy one himself because he sees the value in an iPad now.

Gj OP!

No I paid for my own with the gains. He is paying for his own. I am not that nice.

Yeah...somebody said that to me yesterday...they were really impressed...asked how much...and then made a sour comment about the price. I'm like... WTH??? Best Buy, 18 months % free...works out to be...$47 per month...for what? One of the most amazing tech products produced (long live the Newton).

Anyway, can you elaborate on the process of watching earning on iSM ...and hwo that translated into a BUY/SELL profit for you? I would really like to know more...and do some dabbling myself.

Thanks!

iSM is an ameritrade app. I watch about 30-50 stocks, mostly tech. I research the stocks, check out the news, plan my trades on the economic calendar. That is pretty much it.

If I know a company is doing well but economic data causes the entire market to fluctuate, then I try to get in at the bottom of swing. I deal in 1000 shares or more and get out during the sucker's rally. I also hold stocks long and just let them sit there, but it is more entertaining to do round-trips.

The hardest part is researching the company. When you choose the companies based on their economic stability then your trades work out for you more times than not.

In the words of Dizzee Rascal, money money money, pads pads, cash cash :D

Luckily for Britain's reputation (or whatever's left from it), in the US, people don't know who Dizzee Rascal is. I don't know whether he is virtually unknown there, but that's what we should hope for.

Cool story!

To be fair, there are apps for the iPhone (or iPod Touch) that do the same task and you can also do that on your computer. Some of them are proprietary and some of them are not open to the public (yes, even some corporations do that now), but there are ways to do the same thing on various platforms. In fact, I think the iPad might be less convenient than either. When you are mobile, you need something that fits in your pocket or you need something that you can type and search quickly.

I use my computer when at home and have tried trading on my wifes iPhone. I prefer more real estate when mobile.

The only problem I have with the iPad is the batter life when watching so many stocks over 3G. All the little transmissions eat the battery like it is nothing.

He's not entirely unknown. His first big hit "Fix Up Look Sharp" was used in a preview/ad for an urban dance-oriented movie a few years ago, mainly because its Billy Squier backbeat is somewhat well known among hip-hop enthusiasts in the States. "Fix Up" and "Vexed" (also from Boy In The Corner) is on my iPod right now.

His more "grime"-y tracks like "I Luv U" and later pop-oriented stuff like "Bonkers" is still considered underground over here.

Oiiii, don't diss Dizzee :p

In way less than 18 months, iPad V2 will be out. I would hate to still be paying for V1 iPad when the new one is out.

Oh, so you are an iPad elitist snob. ;)

Hahaha... just kidding...

My mom is looking into getting an iPad to replace a really old Dell E1505 that has a shot battery and gets really warm. She's stuck between a netbook of some kind and an iPad.

It doesn't bother me a bit. I put bb on an automatic installment plan and it pays it off. Doesn't cost me a penny...rather it keeps money freed up for other things...like buying the next one when it comes out.
