Good day all you happy MacRumors forumers. :)

I have a small question from a friend. I don't own an iPad, so I'm asking the question on his behalf.

On a "web app" or rather a dedicated user interface website on Safari, he wanted to tap on a link, but the whole board is selected instead. He told me on the PC he double-clicked to access it. Here's a picture of the website, I've rounded the selected table in blue so you get to see what's being selected.

Anyway, is there a way to double-tap on the iPad ? Does anybody have a suggestion on how to bypass this so that he can tap on the link directly ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm suspecting that site probably uses some Javascript or Ajax programming that the iPad and/or Safari doesn't support.
Does it work on the desktop Safari browser?

If you can link us to the web app, we can try it out.

Has he tried a slow double tap?

Tap - tap should zoom in.

Tap - held tap will highlight.

Thanks for your answers.

My thoughts too (although not as technical as your answer, but I though something just might not well be written).
Unfortunately, I don't know about Safari. He uses a PC with IE. I don't think he'll install Safari to try since it's a "work" PC given by the company he works for. However this web app is part of another, third-party company.

I'd love too give you the link, but that's impossible because it's a web app working through a VPN website with special login linked to a bank his corporation settled with. I asked him to let me try on my iPhone (I suspect the iPhone would have the same problem), but he told me about this internal connexion to this third-party company, unfortunately. He would've let me try it at his place if I came with my Mac, but we live in different countries, so it's just by e-mail communications.

I believe he tried as I asked him to slowly tap twice, but it appears this "table" just goes black (as when you normally tap on the iPhone on a link, their's this black hallow appearing), whether he presses swiftly or long. It doesn't do anything, it doesn't even pop-up a menu "open in new window", it's like tapping an empty or none working link.

I've told him to contact this company to work on that, since many companies might be interested in using the iPad on such website. I'll ask him again though about the slow double-tap.
Thanks for the sharing ideas. If you have other, let me know. I'll keep you informed.

I've been able to select some things like that by zooming in further and tapping with a short hold to ensure I'm actually on the link and not the whole 'pane' area...worth a try?

Definitely !

Thanks, that's a good idea, I'll contact him and try this out asap. Be aware it might take hours/days until I get a response, so other ideas are welcome.

Thanks a bunch for your answers !
