Have just come back to iPad after some years away....so have a 7th Gen on ios 14.

iCloud email...the preview pane...when I switch maiboxes the previous preview pane remains as a sort of third window even if there are no emails in the new mailbox. How can I get rid of it?

Is there anyway to disable the preview pane?

Mail in iOS on the iPad is a bit buggy. In addition to what you describe, I often open mail to find the 3 panels overlapping a bit, especially the titles.

So there is no way to turn off the preview facility?
No. The third panel shows the last loaded email until another one is selected. I have three accounts and if I look at one in account a, then switch to b or c, the email from a is visible.

I wouldn’t have designed it that way, but Apple doesn’t care about email.
