iPad in Canada

Can any speculate on whether I should be able to purchase a U.S. 3G iPad and then use it in Canada rather than waiting. I understand the iBookstore won't work for a while, but the 3G should since the device is unlocked right. All I would need is a 3G sim card. Or will I run into problems with it being an American release in syncing with my iTunes, etc???
