I'm assuming that the iPad will be available in Canada at the same time as in the U.S. I'm really curious about the 3g version, though. Have there been any announcements about what carriers will provide the 3g (Rogers probably), and more importantly, how much their data plans will cost?

The lack of a lock-in contract also makes it very appealing to cross-border travelers. If a I can buy a data plan for only the months when I need it, I could easily just buy a plan when I go to Canada and use it while I'm there without having to pay exhorbitant roaming fees. The only cumbersome aspect would be swapping the sim cards.

http://www.apple.com/ca/ipad/

Launching the exact same here as it is in the U.S. Pricing is TBA.

But what about iBooks ? Will the deals be signed in time ?

A friend of mine told me that you could buy it in the US, buy a Mastercard prepaid gift card, and since the card is located in the US, once activated it would give access to a US iTunes Store account... If that is so : I will be in NYC around the time of launch... and since I know my dear iBook G4 (Roger) might probably not make it until the day I come back to Canada, I was thinking of that option since I was already interested in the iPad.

iBooks is one big selling point for me.

Then again... the 3G networks... what will they do ?

Too many questions... so few answers...

I can't wait! I'm just hoping that Apple will be able to release the bookstore to Canada the day of the launch...since it's the biggest seller to me.

I was going to settle for the wifi version but I need the GPS chip so I am now stuck getting the 3g. I have herd rumors that we wont see a 3G iPad till June in Canada so if thats the case then I will be buying two. A wifi and then replace it with a 3g version. My wife will be happy to get the wifi iPad. I hope Apple gets the 3g Canada iPad out before June.

What you think because we say eh? We are stupid? That is classic American stereotyping.

Quite honestly, your crude joke wasn't even funny.
Oh come on, eh? It was like way funny, eh? Take off you hoser! You are too funny, eh? Pass me another Blue.

once activated it would give access to a US iTunes Store account...

I'm wondering much the same thing. I have a US iTunes account (along with a US bank account, credit card, permanent address...), no problem. But I'm going to be buying the German version of the iPad.

Will iBooks be available even as a generic (non-DRM'd) epub reader for stuff I copy over? Will the store be accessible anyway if I have the appropriate account? Or are they simply going to remove the app entirely from units shipping outside the US?

Really hope we get answers before launch.

I'm Canadian and I never say "eh", however I love my maple syrup, hockey, and beer.

And I'm American, I say "eh", and I also love maple syrup and beer. Of course, I think we all understand that stereotypes only serve for juvenile jokes and, at times, a little bit of fun. Nothing more. Webers ought not take too much offense. In general, Americans think quite highly of Canada.

Back to topic, eh?

I have Fido's 30$ for 6Gb plan. I intend to use that. I will just ask for the mini extra card. I'm not paying any other plan.

You can ask for an extra SIM card? So you can have two cards on the go at once?

iBooks... To be or not to be?

iBooks is one of the deciding factors as to whether or not I will be getting an iPad. So will iBooks be available in Canada when the iPad is released?

This won't work. I work for Rogers, and can tell you with 100% confidence there is no way to attach two SIM cards to the same data plan. It would have to be separate plans.

And plus, if Rogers offers anything like AT&T is, we would get the $30 pay as you go unlimited data deal as well, or at least something like it.

Well, if it's not possible, I'll just use the bluetooth connection to tether the internet... since I always carry my iPhone around anyway.

I just hope we can tether, seeing as the iPad runs iPhone OS, there isn't that option at the moment. Maybe they'll add it for the iPad version of the OS. Hopefully.

And it saves us $130 assuming we don't want GPS.

Unfortunately Rogers (and Canadian cell companies in general) are nothing like AT&T in the US. I can't see us getting $30 no contract unlimited data when they charge you $30 for 1GB of data a month with a voice plan.
