I use an iPad mini for offroad navigation using GaiaGPS app, and 67 Designs mount. As this is for very rough conditions, I can't use some flaky mount system.

Jeep Wrangler, but they make mounts for various vehicles. It is a bit industrial looking for a car if you don't need something like this. Cost is about $150 (and up), for all the components

But now that GaiaGPS now recently supports Apple Carplay, on my next Wrangler (with an updated screen) I will likely use that instead of a mounted iPad (and connect to my iPhone instead)
Maybe look into ProClip.
I have used their products, but not their iPad holder.
The base mounts are custom for every vehicle. I have one for a BMW, but with an iPhone holder not an iPad holder (which they do make)
