That's what it seems like. Nothing, NOTHING that iPad can do, can't be done on a laptop or a smartphone, which, if you're interested in an iPad, I'd be amazed if you didn't have both of these things already. So who wants to carry around yet another thing that can't fit in a pocket like an iphone or make calls, or take pictures?

And when it comes to a laptop, carrying it around in hand seems like a hassle, so you're gonna need a carrying case for it, but why get a VASTLY inferior computing device?

To surf the net on it's terrible browser if for no other reason that by lacking flash, however bad Apple like to claim it is, it's what the internet runs on, and it'll be years before anything, be it HTML5, or maybe something else, replaces it. Or the wonderfully horrible experience that is typing on something too big to use your thumbs, but too small to really use your hands like on a real keyboard.

I'm sorry to troll, but I just don't understand the hype. I don't see the purpose. It's functionality overlaps with a lot of other things, but it does the same jobs in such a poor way, and then there are just mountains of things it can't do. Sure, it's pretty, it's sleek, but it's just 4 ipod touches fused together.

The vast majority of the independent reviewers that have actually used one hands-on disagree with you.

For you, however, buying one would likely only lead to disappointment. I'd recommend you cancel your iPad purchase before it's too late.

If you had one sitting in your lap for the last 4-5 hours, like me, you would see the hype.

I am sorry you do not see it because it is blinding me with all the things I will enjoy doing with the iPad.

I can not imagine anyone not liking it and I am no big Apple user.

Still at 72% power left after about 4.5 hours of use on wifi.

I sit here while watching Fox News and they are reporting the "hype" every few minutes. The iPad is big. It will change the world of publishing, among other things.

Yes I am hyped!

What things are blinding you? Specifically. Yes, the iPad has a ton of hype, but whether or not it delivers, that's another issue entirely.

But again, what specific functions does the ipad offer you, that has you go excited? And I ask, is it ANYTHING you can't already do? Anything you've haven't been doing for the longest time already?

Again, if you've got a laptop, who needs another piece of plastic? It's like buying a little moped that can only hit 20 mph, when you've got a real motorcycle in the driveway, and both are the same price.

The moped uses less fuel
In some states, no Motorcycle license is required to drive a moped

Everyone one has a unique perspective on why something is or isn't valuable/useful to his/her own. To answer your main question. "What can an iPad do that a laptop or iPhone cant?" Answer: Run iPad apps on a big screen

Now that it is out, I think it should be against the forum roles to post threads like this unless the person has actually used a demo machine.

lol, okay, yes, the moped uses marginally less fuel.

Wow, we've a psychic in our midst. We don't even need to be in the same room before he tells me what I have and haven't done.

EDIT: And his psychic friend has come to join him.

Strange, that of the 4 points I made in my post you picked the one of least relevance to respond to.

At least you are up front about trolling. It means you know your issue. The next step is recovery. ;)

You could say the same thing about any computer purchase in the last 5 years.

The ipad is a new experience, the interface just makes sense for apps designed on it.

Do you make these same arguments against netbooks? What can a net book do that a laptop can't? If you don't get it you don't get it, fine then it's not for you.

Ive been enthralled with it since i got it four hours ago, and the well designed apps just make sense, browsing is great, and i even fine i can do an alright job touch typing in landscape, not perfect mind you, but well enough to write this response anyway.

It's funny how you're taking the motorcycle thing a bit too far. It could have been anything. I could have been comparing an ipod touch and some little cheap Chinese knock off. I could have compared a Ferrari and a Pinto, that fact you brought up fuel economy and motorcycle licenses was a little odd, and funny.

And yes, there are the apps....the apps. Applications. Programs. Things you install on your computer to add to their functionality. Yes, these are things NO OTHER DEVICE HAS. I've never downloaded a piece of software to my computer. Never. Ever. Not once, don't know if I'll ever get the chance.

Wow you must really have a Hate-on for the iPad

To troll here as much as you have.

You know few people will be influenced by you but you still feel the need to save us from making a horrible mistake.

Thanks for your concern but I do have a place in my life for the iPad.

Instead of lugging my laptop to bed, I only have a laptop so it is usually hooked to my monitor and extra drives, I can use the iPad to check late night emails, make some corrections to a document and read a book.

On the plane easier to work on the iPad as the seat in front of me bounces back and forth, have broken two screens like that and the kids can watch a video to.

Will I be taking the iPod to lunch no I have a smartphone for on the go daily stuff but for presentations it looks like it will be a great asset for passing around the table.

I love the no keyboard and the size.

I have a place in my digital life for the iPad, you don't and that is cool to but your ongoing sermon of the stupidity of the device and those who have been brainwashed into buying it is getting old.

Move on....

Yes, I do, I despise the netbooks. Netbooks are Laptops retarded cousins, and even they outperform iPads. I think people with the iPad was better. Wish it met the lofty expectations they had of apple. Wish it was gonna be a game changer like the iPhone, which, for all it's flaws, because the new benchmark. What every phone maker strives to surpass, hell, even get close to.

The iPad is not like the iPhone.

Troll.

I shouldn't even be responding to a troll, but...

So who wants to carry around yet another thing that can't fit in a pocket like an iphone or make calls, or take pictures

The point is that the iPad can be used in place of a laptop in certain circumstances, and instead of an iPhone in others (like internet surfing on the couch). It wasn't made to replace every functionality of a phone, or every functionality of a laptop.

And when it comes to a laptop, carrying it around in hand seems like a hassle, so you're gonna need a carrying case for it, but why get a VASTLY inferior computing device?

"Inferior" is subjective; the iPad does many things that a laptop cannot do, or does not do as well.

To surf the net on it's terrible browser

The browser is not terrible; anyone who has used it (myself included) would tell you that the browser is almost identical to desktop browsers.

Or the wonderfully horrible experience that is typing on something too big to use your thumbs, but too small to really use your hands like on a real keyboard.

Again with the subjectivity; I didn't find the typing experience "horrible" at all.

I'm sorry to troll

No you aren't. Trolls never are.

No one here is being specific. Just incredibly vague. It does "stuff" better. Other devices can't do the same "things" as the iPad.

Like what? Apps? Applications? You think Apple invented software or something?

Its more a case of things you find it lacking he/she doesn't really need.

Why do you need specifics? Owners know what it can and can't do and how well it will fit into their lives. They purchase based on that.
