Finally it's Not an Giant IPhone OS they finally killed off 32-bit and 1GB RAM devices err iPads and gave us iPad Owners a True OS

Only good things from now on just give me Bluetooth Mice Support.

Yes! It's finally happening. The iPad is coming of age.

Before 'a lot' of people could use it as their main device.

Today, the next large group of slightly more demanding users can jump aboard that ship!

Myself included.

And hey, if it's still got a little way to go yet.. we have all that confidence iPad is headed in the right direction.

It can only keep getting better!!!

They haven't stopped iOS updates for 1GB RAM iPads yet, there are still the iPad Air, Mini 2 and Mini 3.

I wasn't able to watch the actual stream, just followed the live blog. Details on "Files" seem scarce. What kind of functionality does it actually offer, and how does it work with Apps and versioning, specifically? Can two apps now independently access and edit a single file?

I was really hopeful that when they highlighted HEVC earlier in the keynote, we'd get full hardware support in the new iPads, but at least we got a full file system! HEVC hw decoding and bluetooth mouse and it would be close to perfect.

It will further emphasize what I've always said, that the Mini may be small but it's still a tablet, while the Plus may be big but it's still just a phone.

I think people would be happy with some version of the OS that lets people do more MacOS-esque things on the iPad Pros.

um...it's a good thing that people criticize and complain. that's what keeps companies on their toes. without the complainers we may have been stuck on iphone without 3g for who knows how long.

keep complaining. keep demanding more for the money that you spend.

Software won't revive a dead form factor. Just as 3.5" smartphones won't make a comeback, 7.9" tablets are being sunset.

The iPad mini is too small to be a content creation device and not big enough to compete with phablets. Consumers simply don't want to carry around a second device that has a slightly bigger screen for media consumption. Even if they did, consumers are not willing to pay $300 for an iPad mini when Amazon has Fire and Kindle for less than $100.

Exactly. Holding their toes to the fire brought about a wave of updates that people actually want.

The SE was created for markets like India where the majority of people haven't bought their first smartphone. Today, Huawei, Vivo, and Oppo are making 5.5" phablets so cheap, it's becoming affordable as an entry level smartphone. There are not enough small smartphone users wishing to purchase a mini tablet.

Indeed it is. The iPad Mini is the only device that fits comfortably in the palm of a hand, or even in larger pants/jacket pockets, and offers the full functionality of an iPad. And as I said, iOS 11 will only further differentiate that functionality from that of an iPhone.

Sure, and iPad mini is used in a lot of education markets. But that market isn't big enough for iPad mini.

Production of iPad mini 4 won't stop, but don't expect it to be refreshed at all.

If the mini form factor were such a hot demand size, it would have received a spec bump. Heck even a rose gold or matte black refresh.

I agree but Apple will be producing for the mass market.

I'm sure there are people who love their 11-inch MacBook Air and beg for it not to be discontinued. But it's no longer enough given the pressure from 10" and 12" tablets and 2 in 1 PCs.

THIS is the iPad I have wanted since day 1. I can replace my MBP for all personal use. I'll never be able to not have a MBP due to coding, hacking, VM's, labbing, etc. But I can now use it solely dedicated to my tech endeavors and just use the new iPad Pro 12.9 for all personal usage. I'm stoked man. I'll be ordering a 512 12.9 iPad Pro this Sunday!
