iPad, iPod Touch, or both

I recently won an iPod Touch and immediately took it back for cash toward the new 4Gen model. I have always wanted to get an iPad and my wife told me to use the money toward that instead of the iPod. However I felt since it was a surprise freebie, it would be nice to have both. Now I am having second thoughts and am wondering if it is worth it to have 2 touch mobile devices.

So my question is for those that use their iPads for production work, rather than an expensive toy and for those that have also had an iPod touch at some point in their lives. How much can you do with the iPad compared to a Macbook? How much can you do with the iPod Touch compared to the iPad.

Should I put my money toward a Macbook and keep the iPod Touch? Should I keep the iPod Touch and buy an iPad? Do I really only need the iPad to meet my needs?

*By the way I plan on waiting until the iPad gets updated with a camera before purchasing one…

You're null and void because you give useless information. Anyway I just didn't want a bunch of people telling me to hold on to my iPod because it shoots HD video and stills. I am asking now, so I know whether to wait it out or get the iPod…

sell the ipod you won, buy the new ipod touch 4th gen as you know what the current spec is, no one has a clue what the next ipad will have, so enjoy your touch now, but keep it in good condition with an invisible shield or something. Then if the next ipad has amazing specs you want, sell the ipod touch as it will still be current hardware and will not lose much in value for resale. Then buy the new ipad. Simple

After reading my statement again, I can understand the confusion. I meant that I plan on waiting for the iPad to be updated regardless. But I wanted people's opinions based on current iPod specs and functionality of iPads in general.

No matter what you buy you will have regrets at some point. I bought my iPad on April 3rd. I have no regrets. Yet. I expect to feel a bit of regret right around the time the model with a camera is announced. I was willing to tolerate the risk of being an early adopter because Apple promised I'd get iOS 4 in November for free. But there is no way you can expect to buy tech gear without regret. This industry simply moves too darn fast. I picked up an iPhone 4 and I'm a bit jealous of the faster processor and dual cameras. I wish I had those on my iPad as the screen on the iPad is so much nicer in size. I love the retina display, but it is still a relatively small display and even if it could show all the pixels my iPad can show, I would have to have a magnifying glass to use it.

So far I don't expect my answer has helped much. In the end you should focus on what you care about. If you care about money, get a Kindle. If you care about a large screen, get an iPad and grit your teeth and accept the fact a camera model will come out 5 months or 5 weeks or perhaps 5 minutes after you get yours. If you care about a camera, get the iPod Touch 4th gen and accept the fact an iPad with a camera will come out 5 months or 5 weeks or ... you get the picture.

I was posting at the same time you were. Absolutely taking care of your stuff allows you to sell it and reduce the cost of moving on to better stuff. As I write this I've wiped the Blackberry I replaced with my iPhone 4 and I plan to wipe the iPod Touch I replaced with my iPhone 4. My iPad is pretty scratched. I'll be getting an invisible shield for my next device, as I just did for my iPhone 4. Taking good care of your stuff makes it worth more when (not if) it becomes less desirable than the next gadget.
