iPad -> iTeleport -> Mac

Hey!

I have just bought a new iMac, and loving it! I also have an iPad and am using iTeleport (Jaadu VNC) to access it remotely. Love having my iMac everywhere I go A couple of questions though.

- How do you leave your iMac so you can access it remotely? Do you just leave the screen on? Or is there a way of turning it off that still allows you to access it using iTeleport? Ideally I would like to turn the screen off when I leave the house in the morning, and use iTeleport throughout the day without it turning the iMac screen back on!

- What do you need to run on the iMac before you leave the house so that iTeleport will work remotely? Does port forwarding need to be set up still even though Vine-Jaadu Server and iTeleport Connect are running? Do you need a static ip still as well?

I just find it a little annoying that it isn't always possible to access the iMac unless you set a few things up on the Mac first before you leave the house.

Any help is much appreciated.

On your iMac, go to System Preferences, and select "Energy Saver". There in the energy saver panel, change the sleep time to never and leave the screen setting to whatever you like.

Great idea but it does not work, not on my Mac Mini at least until I installed Caffeine. No more sleeping for my Mac Mini.

iTeleport seems to use port 5900.

I have things set up with Airport Extreme over wifi with wake up on Lan. iTeleport can actually wake up my iMac from sleep over wifi. Dont have to do anything before leaving the house. You need a static IP though, and VPN enabled.

An iPhone app iNet wakeonlan can also wake up the mac before a session.

Desktop app can do a wake up and uses the mac address of your mac.

Logmein only works when the computer is on but is one of the fastest clients. I have Logmein, Deskto and iTeleport (and teamviewer). They all have good and lesser sides. There are some good posts that compare them.

this is what i do on my mac mini. system preferences then energy saver.

check for wake for network access
