iPad mini iPad keeps disconnecting from a rMBP

Hi,
I have a iPad mini and a mid 2015 rMBP. Recently, the iPad started to disconnect / reconnect every second when I plug it via USB to the MacBook. I didn't have any problems before.

The same cable and the same iPad work fine on another macbook or when plugged directly into a power outlet. Other iPad on the same MacBook work fine as well! So it looks like it's only the combination of my particular iPad with my macbook.

I tried resetting the privacy in " Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy." as suggested in other posts but it did not help.

I have the latest iOS (11.2) and macOS (High Sierra)

Any idea what else I could try?

Restart the MacBook and connect to a different USB port.

That’s weird. Sounds like the MacBook is not able to provide the voltage through USB ports to charge the iPad. Don’t think there’s much you can do other than trying later really.

what's strange is that another iPad mini connects fine with the same cable. I'll try later again with a fully charged iPad. If it doesn't help, I'll try to reset it to factory defaults

I noticed that it's happening also with my iPhone X on the same mac with any cable while the same cable or devices work fine on other macs. This happens only when the idevice has less that 60% of battery :/

Yep the Mac is definitely not able to provide enough power. Which model is it?

It’s a 2015 rMBP 15”. I tried resetting the SMC / NVRAM but it does not help.

Can it be related to the power supply used for the mac?

I presumed you’re using the stock power supply. But if the mac is able to operate then that will mean there’s enough power either way. Could be a faulty USB port. Are you able to charge other things using the ports?

I do have a stock charger but from a 2010 MBP 15" (which is also 85W) + an adapter for the MagSafe 2. I'll try with the real stock power supply at work and report back if it changes anything
