Hi all.

My niece has an iPad for school, it's a few years old and I don't know what version it is. it won't turn on.

When you turn it on, it's has one of those icons telling you to plug it into itune/computer and a URL basically saying you need to restore it.

I took it home to try to fix it, When I open iTunes and connect it, it says it needs to update, and if it can't update it needs to restore.
I ran the update and then told it to restore, but it keeps bringing me back to the same screen and steps.

I've don't this 2 or 3 times now and it's just saying the same things. I'm in the middle of the 4th try !!

There is a Home button on the iPad, but I've been told it's not working, I'm telling you this as you may help identify which model iPad it is.

Would anyone have any help or advise on what I could try to get it working again?

thank you.

Thank you for your reply.

When I connect the iPad it's not giving me an option like that, It's not registering the that the iPad is working, so I don't get that screen, the name etc,

It is trying to do a factory reset, but as I said it keeps looping.

When it's finished it's next attempted update I'll take a screen show of what I see when I connect it to the computer/iTunes.

You tried this?

I missed your second suggestion, so i'm trying that now.

I also found out by searching the serial number that it's an iPad 5th Gen.

I got this error trying the Clean install you suggested.
I am far from an expert, there maybe other suggestions, but if it refuses to update or clean install, I would set up an appointment with the nearest Apple Store or Best Buy and see if they can put a clean install on it.
