The screen on my Ipad went black then an image of a USB lead/plug and an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo appreared. The iPad is stuck on this screen and can not be used. What have I done?? How can I get my iPad back??

Thanks but it's been on charge for hours. Have tried resetting (pressing Home and Sleep/Wake buttons) but seems to just return to this screen. Any other advice?
We were unsuccessfully trying to shift a movie off our PC and onto the iPad using iTunes. We could see the iPad in iTunes and had completed a successful sync but couldn't make the movie shift. Another challenge but one we would have achieved eventually LOL. We went away and came back for another try later...this time iTunes couldn't see the iPad as a 'device' and the iPad went black and this USB/iTunes graphic appeared.
I have since done a clean install of iTunes 9 and tried resetting again but to no avail.

a similar situation happened to my friends ipad. a brand new ipad, itunes was unable to detect it in their sony netbook and they were unable to activate the ipad. so i was guiding them through phone and suddenly itunes kinda detected the ipad and activated it. but on subsequent tries it itunes still did not detect the ipad.
in the mean time she setup a passcode for the ipad and was happily exploring the ipad. come next day ipad showed them the connect to itunes screen! holy **** and their netbook still cannot detect the ipad. so i went there and was trying to troubleshoot, so hooked up their ipad in my laptop, lo and behold itunes detected it but cant do ****! coz it was asking me to unlock the ipad using the passcode, but the ipad was stuck in the connect screen!
no way to remove passcode without a full restore! ended up wiping their netbook and reinstalled everything from scratch, and in the mean time downloading a 450 mb restore file on my laptop over their 512mb line for 3 hrs and restored everything!
i dunno what triggers the itunes connect screen on the ipad! guess anything that triggers a DRM check routine!!
anyways i havent seen the connect screen on my ipad since the first time!

Thank you. Anyone else with a suggeston on how to connect my new iPad to iTunes. I'm on thelatest version of iTunes....they just aren't talking!!!
please provide some more details on what OS, desktop or notebook etc.
if its windows, then there would be three different activities (on PC) that come up once the ipad is connected.
0. the ipad will chirp indicating that its been connected to a usb port and indicate charging or not charging in front of the battery icon.
1. windows will open up an autoplay prompt to open the dcim folder showing the device with the ipads name.
2. itunes will automatically open when the ipodservice detects the ipad.
if either of them doesnt happen, i would suggest plugging the ipad into a different usb port. in case of a desktop any usb port on the backside should be used as they are directly from the motherboard. in case of a laptop try using any other ports.
in windows some programs and services will interfere with the ipod service so try to close all other programs and antivirus and security software before plugging in the ipad. this is more of a Diagnostic step and is not required to be done all the time.

Just done as you suggested. When I plug the iPad in to the USB port the pc makes two 'dongs' instead of the positive 3 ding
sounds you normally hear when you plug in a device, as if the PC doesn't recognise the devise...and tells me as much. iTunes is doesn't start automatically but will open, but not surprisingly iTunes can't see the iPad.Have tried several ports on the back of the PC ...no change. Turning off antivirus/firewall..no change.
Google "iphone dfu." Follow the directions (works the same on iPads and iPod touches). Once the iPad is in DFU, windows should say it found new hardware and start installing drivers for it. Then you should be able to restore it from iTunes. Good luck.

I mean, you know how whenever you connect a new USB device to a Windows machine, it installs drivers for it, automatically? That's what happens when you attach an iDevice in DFU mode to a Windows computer. So it's the easiest way to confirm that the device was successfully placed in DFU.
