Can you safely charge the new iPad with the MacBook Pro charger? Not sure if it would damage the battery or something else.
 
No problem. You could charge a phone with the MacBook Pro charger. The phone and charger work together to negotiate the maximum charge rate. Lots of threads on this lately if you look.
 
Yes, you can. I think some of Apple's higher watt chargers may not offer the precise voltage / current to charge the iPad pro's quickly, but they will charge them safely anyway. For instance, some of the older, pre PD 29w chargers will charge the iPad pro 3rd gen, but not charge them as fast as the newer 30w charger that has the correct PD charging for the new pros.
