My iPad Mini 4 needs replacing fairly soon (the battery is getting worn out, and I'm now rather regretting not having gone for more storage for watching films and tv on long train journeys), but having looked at and compared current iPads in store, what I realise that I really want now is an "iPad Midi": bigger than the iPad Mini, but not quite as big as a standard iPad.

The Mini is a nice compact size, which is great for portability and the right sort of size to be able to casually stuff into a rucksack or bag, but after having used it for several years I realise that it would be nice to have a bit of a larger screen for watching video, and a more widescreen-proportioned shape that more properly suits this use (which is what I mainly use my iPad for, along with 'radio' streaming and ebook reading). The standard iPad size is just a bit too big and heavy to hold comfortably when lying in bed, etc (especially with one hand), and it can't be squeezed into a rucksack quite so easily without first forming a suitable gap in the contents to slide it into, whereas a smaller device can sort of dig its own hole (enclosed in a protective case, of course).

With iPhones now available in quite a variety of sizes, I wonder if Apple might consider iPad Midi a missing size gap that hopefully needs to be filled? I can't be the only person who would find that such a size would fit the sweet spot, am I?

The Mini 6 has a larger screen in a slightly smaller body.

Apple has more sizes for iPads than iPhones.

iPad: 10.2, 8.3, 10.9, 11, 12.9

iPhone: 4.7, 5.4, 6.1, 6.7

If you consider the 10.9 and 11 as the same size, then it's pretty much 1:1 with iPhones. The market for the iPad is, I believe, less than 1/4th of the iPhone's so I doubt Apple's interested in introducing another in-between size.

With that said, a version of the 9.7-10.2" iPads without home button and smaller bezels would be nice as an in-between. The shorter length would make the keyboard pitch too small for Apple's liking though so I don't think that's gonna happen.
