My iPad Mini 2 got setup on iOS 9.0 fine, all synced fine (backup saved in Mac iTunes).
So in Mac iTunes trying several times to transfer Mini 2's backup to new Mini 4, but have Photos problem...

A couple of videos (recorded originally on an old iPhone) are 3GP/h263 which transfer (and play!) fine to Mini 2, but when transferring the backup to Mini 4, iTunes shows a warning saying they cannot be transferred to the Mini 4?! Why?

Why can I have them on the Mini 2 (where they play fine), but not on the Mini 4? The format is supported, as the Mini 2 on iOS 9 can play them in Photos.app.

So damned annoying. And no help can I find anywhere.

3GP format videos...anyone?

I think it is a 'passthough' video format or something, as it works on all my other iOS devices, but not this new iPad Mini 4 from a backup taken from an iPad Mini 2.

OK so no replies.

In the end I opened them on my Mac in Quicktime, saved them as h264 .m4v's instead, then opened them in Mac's iPhoto changing the created date manually to match exactly the date/time from the .3gp originals, and finally deleted the .3gps originals.
So at least I have them in working form on the new device.

Hope this helps anyone else. Shame Apple are entirely unclear on this – e.g. asking AppleCare zombies resulted in no help whatsoever. How unsurprising.

Do not feel bad! Read other posts with go pro cam clips not playing in IOS, via however users were doing it in IOS 8. Also lightning memory card reader some say loads up memory cards but IOS 9 won't let you open and display pictures as well.

Bugs and glitches galore. I personally say IOS 9 is still running like a beta. Core functionality is a 50/50 chance.

Not worth the gamble if your still on IOS 8.x, stick to it until Apple does release an IOS 9.x that fixes everything.

How this went unnoticed with the developers/programmers is beyond me.

I think a lot of things have been depreciated with the release of iOS 9.

From skimming through Apple's online developer documentation, lots and lots of things have "ended iOS 9" (or words to that effect) next to them.

Trouble is I'm not a dev, thus most of it goes well over my head, so have to guess this 3gp passthrough has presumably been dropped.

Would've been nice if Apple could give a clear non-dev understandable list of dropped functionality, so us mere mortals didn't have to spend hours pissing around, guessing what is or might be going on.

Welcome to Apple, 2015.
