After purchasing the iPad Pro 10.5, I factory reset my iPad mini 3 so I can give it to my mother n law. After resetting the device, I attempted to set it up but I they past the activation stage. I get activation error that suggests that I contact Apple. After 2hrs of on the phone support, I was told to take the device to the Genius Bar for repair. Have anyone experience this issue with their iPads? Is there a way that I can get around this? Or could this be a hardware failure? FWIW, the device worked just fine before I upgraded and reset the mini 3

Do you have your receipt? You might need a receipt.

I had similar problem where I cannot past Apple ID during the setup process. I have to update to iOS 11, then the problem went away.

Did you have to newest iOS installed on the iPad?

Glad I still at iOS 8.3 in my Mini 3! Good luck at the Genius Bar! Still very fast and some apps do not work but I just use bookmark to go to them using web browser.
