Hi guys i have a question for you. I have a ipad mini 4 that when it gets below 10% battery it shuts off im taking it into the apple store to see what they can do. I have mailed it in once before but they couldn’t fix the problem. What should I expect when i take it into the store. Please write back. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

simple you need a new battery. And its pretty hard to do yourself so pay someone a hundred bucks and it will be back to normal again.

Battery has dead cells, they should offer you a $100 replacement of the device. I have the same issue but since I have other iPads and the mini 4 is old and slow I won't pay any money and let it die

Do they replace it with the same device or with a newer model

they will give you a new mini 4 with the same specs and a new battery (provided your mini 4 has no broken screen or other damage). I did it for my 12.9 pro from 2015 and it was well worth it for that $1000 device, but the mini 4 lags too much on iPadOS 14 and given that I have the mini 5 which is night and day it made no sense even as a spare tablet...

Do they do it in store what if the store doesn’t have any that are refurbished?

if they haven't it in store, you'll have to wait a few days (1 to 2 weeks), they will get it in some sort of central location where they have it (I don't know the details) and once it arrives they will let you know, you go in the store, bring your mini 4 that was inspected a few days earlier and they swap it for $100

Can they give u trade in value to a new one last time I looked it was 150 can i use that trade in credit toward a new mini 5

Yes they can. And I would suggest you go with a mini 5 or even wait a month for the mini 6 (even if I am afraid that the mini 6 will be more expensive because of the redesign).
Anyway the mini 5 is so much better than the mini 4 and the mini 4 is first in line to lose support, being the slowest iPad still supported. Mini 5 feel just as fast as the previous generation iPad pro (they belong to the same family of chips) and will be supported much longer... Of course the upcoming mini 6 will be even better but again, probably $100 more...
The reason why I avoid trade in is because they give you peanuts... Honestly if you can get more than $100 in trade in go for it, they quoted mine $70 and I refused the trade-in... but maybe you have a better model...

What is going on is that the battery is too degraded. Hence what happens is several things:
  1. The charge at the low end (when at low charge level) is too low to keep voltage or amps pumping at the required rate of usage.
  2. iOS and MacOS never actually know how many mAHrs are left in a battery. They can only do some mathematical guesswork to estimate a percentage of charge left. Hence, a degraded battery might be to tricky for the battery percentage algorithm to give you an accurate reading
  3. When the battery is degraded voltage tends to drop when there is low power left. As a result, a safety feature kicks in to save the CPU from running in under-voltage environment which can damage a CPU.
My suggestion? If you want to keep using the same iPad, call Apple and see if they can replace the battery. Else, wait and see what the new iPad Minis come out like.

Hope this helps!

Absolutely right, that often happens when some of the battery cells are dead but the battery is still alive...
And yes Coconut and iMazing have a hard time estimating in this case, they can only report cycles correctly. I have seen estimations going from 80% to 40% health in the same week...

The only explanation must be because I am not in the US. You are very lucky to have double in the US, I double checked and it's still 70 Swiss Francs, which is 75 USD...
Quick question its now doing it on high battery percentages
