Same here, and it's running at USB2 speeds as well. Copying iTunes tracks and videos is as slow as my old 6th gen regular iPad from 2018. It's plugged through the Thunderbolt port on the back of my CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 hub, which is connected to my Mac via Thunderbolt.

Is the iPad Air 4 with USB-C the same USB 2.0 speeds? Not exactly surprising if the iPad mini is the same as the iPad Air.

The cable the comes in the box with the iPad is probably an Apple USB-C to USB-C charging cable. It's limited to USB2 speeds. I had to buy a USB3.1 rated USB-C cable to get faster speeds on my iPad 2021 Pro
I’ll check it out later today when I get my iPad mini 6. I have plenty of USB-C 3.1+ cables.

Gotta be 3.1. It's the cable, almost certainly. Those power cables are just that.

USB 2. Hilarious! Could you imagine? Actually, I can as it's Apple.

So my 2020 iPad Pro shows up on the USB 3.1 bus as up to 10Gb/s but the iPad mini shows up on the same 3.1 bus as up to 480Mb/s. So it really is only USB 2.0 speeds. Too bad but I guess that’s because it isn’t a “pro” iPad.

Just realised you’re right. A$1209 for this thing and they couldn’t spring for a proper cable that does data at the speed the port on the device offers. Now I realise I have to spend another A$65 for (and wait another week for delivery of) their USB-C data cable.

There’s a line between premium pricing and price gouging and for me this crosses it.

Don’t bother. It doesn’t connect at anything higher than 480 Mb/s. A different cable won’t help.

Wow. One of the reasons I ordered one was for the faster USB speeds. Screen has the contrast of my Mini 5 AND the same USB speed? I'm not sure it's worth it for a 256/Cellular model. I compared one in the store to my Pro 11 and the screen can't do the black video as well.

No matter whatever cable u use, Its only usb2.0。when use iPad Pro 2018, Its 10Gbps. Apple is like Nvidia.

I'll bet most people when they heard USB-C on the new mini thought faster speed. It's really disappointing. I'm so tired of USB2 speeds on my iPhone 12 and some of the new iPads.

I mean…. Even on Apples site for technical specifications for the iPad Mini that it’s USB-C supports USB 3.0… so I’m surprised that its basically transferring/receiving 2.0 speeds

Same here. Mini6 on iMacPro. Will try different USB/TB4-cables and iMac/MBP M1 and see what works. Has anyone found a solution yet?

We need to try a powered hub (just to be sure :D). It would be lame, but maybe it's a power conserving thing. Is there an app that can tell you what is happening on the iOS side?

I used a 6” USB-C SS 10 cable. With my 2020 iPad Pro the signaling rate according to the System Info app on my M1 MacBook Air is 10Gb/s. When I plug in the iPad mini using the same cable, the signaling rate is 480Mb/s. No different cable is going to fix that.

Okay - that would be super absurd as USB-C should be much faster. Could it be because of the A15 architecture / lightning coming over from the iPhone?

USB-C is just a connector spec. It doesn't really imply USB 3.1, but USB 3.1 can only use USB-C.

There are LOTS of USB-C 2.0 devices.

What is amusing is that since Apple doesn't publish this spec (to my knowledge), we did this exact same thing before. And at that time, the cable was the wildcard, and it took some time for people to find that it was 3.0. This time (knowing better), the only hope would be a power issue, if it's not the cable. At least this needs to be tried.

But it doesn't look promising, does it?
