Aside from jelly scrolling, which i never notice, how has your experience been with the ipad mini 7 display?

Every YouTube video I've seen, the ipad mini 7 display looks so dull, yellow tinted and so dim and unattractive. Curious how your experience has been with the ipad mini 7 display quality as I'm considering buying it.

Thanks!

Me too considering buying it. My m1 air laptop also has a display praised as mediocre. Is it mediocre though? It is better than a lot of windows laptops, but side by side ti MBP14 pro it is grey and dull. But it doesn’t stop me from using it 99% of the time.

I guess the same sentiment carries over to ipad mini. It is still that famous base Retina display, it is good if you don’t have direct comparison. If you flip flop on the desk between ipad pro and mini, of course you will notice display quality.

As much as I don’t like max tech, he has the latest video comparison of all ipads. Worth watching if you have MacBook (calibrated display) to see real world differences. They are minimal, of course ipad 10 being the worst.

I like my Mini 7's screen quite a lot - absolutely no yellow dullness here. Doesn't have the color pop like my M4 Pro, but the screen is color is neutral to my eyes with better whites and good contrast, best for reading which is what I do most with the Mini. The M4 Pro has a superior color punch that OLED is known for but my unit leans heavy on the warmer side (even after adjusting color filter, with night shift and true tone off) and there's a definite color shift when you hold it at certain angle.

I don't mind my Mini 6's screen, but my comparison devices are an M1 MBA and my work M1 iPad Air. It doesn't seem to be any worse than either of those. But compared to a Pro with OLED, it's clearly inferior.

You should check it out in person. There's no way you can accurately tell how good the screen is from watching a YouTube video.

It's fine. It's not OLED or even miniLED. Great colors and decent contrast.

Just a generic LCD screen with an insane amount of ghosting so if you don't mind that then go for it. It's 99.8% the same as the mini 6 so if you check out Notebookcheck.com review on it then you're good.

I think all of Apple's laptop and tablet LCD screens have a lot of ghosting, don't they?

Yes, because they pick slow response displays to cut costs as they have already invested into p3 color space and 120hz pro motion.

P3 color, 240hz, oled, fast pixel refresh standalone displays cost as much as macbook pros.

Yup including the miniLED displays as well since they’re technically lcd. Basically anything that isn’t OLED isn’t very good and Apple uses ProMotion as a crutch for their **** response times.

I just received the mini 7 an hour ago, and am setting it up as we speak. I am noticing a drastic difference in screen brightness between the two despite toggling auto-brightness off, and ensuring reduce white point is not on. I *think*/(hope) it's due to the downloading, installing and indexing occurring in the background, and the iPad's additional heat throttling the brightness.

I'll give it some time, but wanted to ask if anyone else has done a direct comparison and noticed a disparity in brightness? I'll update this once more time has passed.

*After an hour the difference is more balanced. However, I will note I prefer the Mini 6 screen personally. The mini 7 screen skews more yellowish and is not quite as bright as the 6. I wouldn't return it because of just this, and if one didn't see them side by side, it'd be a non-issue. Just goes to show how variation does occur in manufacturing.

This is a stop-gap upgrade until a mini-led or OLED version with pro-motion is released. For those of you with a Mini 6 debating, unless storage space is a factor or you get a fantastic deal, I personally wouldn't necessarily upgrade.

Those two screens seem to be at different brightness levels.

Thanks, but as noted, they were set exactly the same (auto-brightness off, white point off, 100% brightness, true tone off). It’s just a variation in screen quality and warmth, which could even be dependent on my own particular model vs another manufacturing run.

I prefer the cooler and brighter screen of my 6, but will keep the 7.

Just went and saw these in the Apple Store and they are as mediocre as I was expecting

Something about the text is not very sharp for some reason too

It’s also a massive mistake to ever go over to the iPad Pro because it absolutely ruins any hope of ever enjoying the mini once you see that iPad Pro screen.

Ugh

I wish Apple would at least give us a paid option for an oled mini

Yeah, I have the Mini 6 but also the M4 13" - striking difference.

It's not very good when compared to the OLED Pros.
That is true. However, as someone who has both, the screen on the mini doesn’t bother me as I knew it wouldn’t compare to the M4 and for what I use the mini for, (which is limited use since getting M4) i am fine with it. Had the mini been more expensive, my retort would be different.

I received mine today and I would rank the display as ok. Among the Apple devices I own, it's probably the worst, but it's on an acceptable level and, contrary to the screen of the Mini 6, it doesn't bother me too much.
