Background
I recently sold both iPad Mini 64GB WiFi + Cellular (AT&T) on eBay in anticipation of the new iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display launch. I really thought the iPad Air would be the device for me owning original iPad, iPad 2, and iPad 3. The iPad Mini followed the iPad 3 because the heft of the Retina Display full size iPad. I (we) only used smart covers for the full size iPads because their finish was durable. Fast forward to the iPad Mini with the delicate chamfered edge and cases became the norm. The iPad Air has now adopted the chamfered edge so full coverage. The bulk with a case was not acceptable on the two iPad Air 128GB WiFi + Cellular (AT&T) we picked up on launch day. I absolutely hated (bulk, fit, gaps, etc.) the iPad Air SmartCase. About the only thing I appreciated about the SmartCase was the finish. I have since returned the iPad Air and exchanged the accessories for iPad Mini accessories.

Question
For those that have received their iPad Mini with Retina Display and use the Apple iPad Mini SmartCase, please provide your feedback. Does it have the same gaps at the hinge? Does it seem to flop open to easily?

I picked up a smart case today- everything is perfect with it EXCEPT: the magnet isnt strong enough to hold it as a triangle so it often goes flat when in landscape mode.

Im gonna swap it out and if thats the case with another one i'll move on to something else

So it's not slightly too large with gaps between the back and front? Does the microfiber lining on the cover wipe the screen? The Air case never did?

I think both of those things are happening, yes. I dont mind those and even kinda like it though. The magnet thing is super annoying, however

Because I love the Apple leather case for my iPhone 5S, and because reviews of the retina mini smart case say it has the same luxurious feel, I ordered one today in Black with expedited shipping.

No gaps to speak of, unlike the one for the iPad 3/4. Main annoyance is stand mode: the microfiber must be on the outside if you want it top hold position, as it doesn't have a magnet lock the way the old smart cover did, and the leather is top thick to let the cover magnets lock onto the back.

Still like the feel of it better than most cases, though.

So, dummy just realized folding the triangle shiny side out works just fine for holding up the case/typing. The weak magnets only with the raw side out.

Just bought the smart case and I have to say that it's perfect.... Not $75 (including taxes) perfect. But it offers just the right amount of protection without the bulk. Also I don't use it much as a stand so I'm not to worried about it not being sturdy. Only objective is limiting scratches and protecting the screen.

It does that very!

This is the best case ive ever had for an ipad (and aside from my lifeproof, the most expensive)

The only thing i would like somehow is if they added a spot for a stylus but i get why the wouldnt
