The mini 2 shares a processor with the 5S, mini 3 and air 1.

They’re the slowest devices supporting iOS 11 so there’s a reasonable chance they’ll be dropped next year.

However as we’ve no idea if iOS 12 is going to be some big change vs 11 or not, it’s all just a guess.

Whether it supports it or not, I’m surprised it’s running iOS 11 with any kind of usability.

I think ios 11 is the last os that will be supported on the ipad mini 2! Mine lags like crazy and that’s after a clean install, it works but it’s real slow compared to my 10.5 pro

Would my mini 2 work with iOS 12 when released? It seems to work just fine with 11 :)

No one knows for sure, but it's on the very bottom rung of devices that support iOS 11, so it's possible/likely that it may not get iOS 12. But if it's still serving you well, I say, that's something you don't need to worry about for another year!

Considering that there are still people using the iPad 3 out there, Im still using an iPad 4. As long as your iPad does what you need it to do you'll be fine. iOS 12 though? like everybody else has said, probably not

Mine doesn’t seem to lag that much....

How do you like the 10.5 pro?

I have an iPad mini 4 and I'm even questioning that it will support ios12.

Technically yes...but iPad mini 4 doesn't even have AR. So why bother. :(

It you did not update the iOS, then good for a long time! I am still on 7.2.1 and it is as fast as the iPad Pro at the Apple store at least the web browser is! Love the speed!

The new dock makes multi-tasking, or even just switching apps, far more convenient. I downgraded my Air 2 but kept my Mini 4 on 11.0.1 for now. 10.3.3 is amazingly more fluid on the Air 2, where 11.0 and 11.0.1 were annoyingly jerky. It's a trade-off...

iOS 9 onwards runs like crap on Mini 2/3 and Air 1. iOS 8 is fine though.

Agree, and in my opinion my Mini 4 didn't run iOS 11 well. I went back to 10.3.5 and think it will probably stay there. iOS 12? Very optimistic on a Mini 4. I can't even imagine a Mini 2, *but* people do different things and have different expectations, so hey, it's all good if it works for you.

One reason I bought a iPad Pro, was the fact that my 2nd gen mini was so slow. I forget if I updated it to iOS 10, or was still running an older version. Maybe I'll fire it up and see, but suffice it to say that it was time for an upgrade - at least for my wants and needs.

My initial reaction to iOS 11 on my mini 2 is positive. I've seen no issues and all the new features seem to work as advertised.
But I do close down apps that I'm not likely to use for awhile and typically have perhaps less than a dozen active at any one time.

That said, I realize that there will be (probably soon) a point where the mini 2 will no longer be supported. Certainly hoping that Apple decides to release a new product with this form factor.

I’ll echo this - iOS 11 runs very well on my Mini 2. Is it as fast as the Pro 9.7 or the Pro 12.9”? No, but it serves it’s purpose well enough.

But, then again, there are those out there who will say “OMG! A slight studder! Completely useless!!!!”
