iPad mirroring with no network?

Hello!! So here's my situation. For school, (because the apple tv is so small) I want to take it and use keynote to have presentations. I don't want to have to bring my windows laptop, however if necessary I will do that. I would like my apple tv to recognize my iPad without having to connect to any network. I know I can do that with the cable, but the whole point of this is to go wireless so I can walk around the room with no huge cable coming off my iPad. I'm wondering if I can create some sort of network, not ad hoc, because I am aware that the apple tv does not support that, that will allow me to do so. Like I said, if I have to bring my laptop to school (mind you it's windows, NOT mac) I can, but just to have sitting there almost as a center for the connection. Any help would be appriciated!

Also, I'm not sure if it's just me not looking hard enough, but I have honestly not found anyone that has asked about this. Also, this will come in handy when I am out at my camp where there is no wifi connection and I can wirelessly stream videos on my iPad to my tv there.

You can only wirelessly mirror your iPad to your ATV if both are connected to the same WiFi network. You'd either have to join your school's existing WiFi network or somehow create your own.

So what if I brought my windows computer and somehow created a network that both my iPad and apple tv would recognize? Would that work?
 
Wait wait you want to use your iPad and apple tv due to size, but are willing to drag your windows pc and iPad and apple tv? I would think a presentation then just from the laptop would do no? Or connect the iPad direct to the projector or bring small wireless router. Maybe it's me but it seems you may be making thistle difficult than needed for the cool factor. Heck you could turn your presentation, if it lacks animations, into pictures and just slides how it from photo stream on the apple tv if you wanted too. So many working parts, IMHO opens it up for too many critical failure points.

I agree, however, if you use AirPlay and the apple tv with mirroring and use the keynote app on the iPad, it gives you a different interface on the iPad and you can see notes and such. I love this, and also the fact that I can walk all around the classroom and go to the next slide and such, all wirelessly, makes it look and seem very professional. Is there a way I could do it with a small router, even if it didn't have internet on it hooked up to it?

Errrr.... why not just use the 40USD HDMI output adaptor cable for the iPad 2?

EDIT: I see. I actually use my iPhone as the remote via bluetooth:eek:
 
I got curious and tested it.

Yes, you just need a wireless router, iPad/iPhone, and ATV2 for Airplay.

You won't need internet access.

I should note, I haven't actually done that in a while :(

Looking at reviews, it seems that functionality needs a slight workaround to actualy work, since the initial bluetooth pairing process is now broken.
