I got an new iPad from Argos but serial starts with F does that mean they sold me a refurb? I got a second for my partner it starts with G so think that’s ok. I’m sure my Pro started with M was it was from Apple

The model number starts M serial is F what should I look out for for a refurb? Is it new or used?

The model number starts M
  • M – your device is new
  • F– your device is refurbished (refurbished by Apple or a carrier)
  • N – your device is an Apple replacement phone
  • P – your device was personalized with engraving
serial is F
That means absolutely nothing.

By the way, Apple refurbished (i.e., the “F” model numbers) units have been frequently cited as being almost always indistinguishable from new. So, it’s nothing you should lose sleep about anyway. That is, if you’re purchasing from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller. Buying used, no matter the model or serial number, always has a higher risk.

Serial number starting with F means absolutely nothing. I just picked up a brand new ipad pro m4 11 inch at the apple store unopened and starts with F. Who cares.
