If true, then somebody royally screwed up at apple? This failed the simplest background check.

I'm sure apple will throw Fujistsu some money in the course of time and the problem will quietly disappear

LOL. I knew this was coming. Jobs is ballsy.

Since Fujitsu doesn’t bother to sell this product anymore, I’m sure they’d gladly be willing to sell the trademark at the right price. :D

Apple knew. When the trademark application expired then was renewed earlier this year, Apple requested more time from the PTO to file motions to stop the renewal. They have until the end of February to file their motion.

Personally, I hope Apple loses the suit and has to rename the device. I hate the name.

This won't be an issue and the name will not change because Apple with buy the rights from Fujitsu. I don't think they ever would have announced the product with that name if they didn't intend to keep it, regardless of the cost. Although moving on it without securing the name first means that Fujitsu can significantly raise the price now. Steve will cough up the millions needed to make it happen.

But iPod came out in 2001.

that means jack crap.

I hope apple gets taken to the cleaners on this one and has to pay millions. They did this knowing that someone else had the rights to the name. They shove out a product thinking with it in market fudji would be force to sell its rights away. I will laugh very hard if Apple is force to to change the name and have to pay millions for what devices it did sell under the wrong name.

LOL, you always say you hope Apple is sued, etc., for virtually everything. Like for their "App Store monopoly" or some such nonsense. You don't make any sense.

Apple will keep the name. They'll either settle with Fujitsu for it and buy it, or simply pursue the matter in court. The "iPad" name will stick.

Agreed, I think they tried to have a name that's close to the iPod name for brand recognition and tie-in. Even so, its a lame name.

iPad is not as a bad as “iBookstore” which Jobs pronounced on stage as “iBooks Store." I think someone was drunk at Apple when they were naming the parts of this device.

Of course, he did pronounce 10.2 Jaguar as 10.2 Jagwire.

keep telling yourself that. I see apple abusing its power.

You on the other had worship apple. Apple can do no wrong and i think even you are having a hard time swallowing this one because you are not coming up with some defense of it.

I expect the outcome is apple will settle and have to pay several million and just buy the rights but I would like to see apple get nailed for its question practices. This is one of those times it is pretty clear apple was trying to get around the law and go for what it wants legal or not.

No "abuse" exists. Wanting it to exist doesn't make it so. LOL.

Call your local congressperson and tell them the courts have been blind to it all along!

How many of apples cases have made it all the way threw court. The only one I can think of is Phystar and that one legally it was apple side.

The rest of them apple settled out of court. My guess is they offered up a lot of money and then sweet it under the rug.
The App store one will be tied up in court for years. I do not agree with apple practice there and limited sand box but nothing we can do about it.

They did this knowing that someone else had the rights to the name.

If this type of integrity is so important to you then maybe you should consider changing your screen name. Last time I checked someone else has the legal rights to the name Rodimus Prime. ;)

Oh I hope so. It will give Apple a face-saving excuse to change the product's horrible name.

Fujitzu abandoned the mark iPad then decided they still wanted it in June. Around the same time that Apple was known to be coming out with it.

IMHO the ONLY reason fujitzu re-applied was to get money from Apple.

The trademark office will look down on this tactic and probably award it to Apple.

I found the name iPad strange, you know, the lady thing.

but when apple wants to put an i in front of everything, its getting more difficult to come up with a good name.

surely you are not suggesting that Fujitsu came up with an iPad product 8 years ago with no intention of trademark the name? That would be crazy stupid,. wouldn't it?
