iPad not at Best Buy for launch?

I spoke with the Apple specialist at my local Best Buy, and she told me this:

"The iPad will not be available here for launch on April 3rd. We're hoping to get it by the end of April."

Then, a big, assertive bald guy came over--another Apple specialist (supervisor?) and interrupted her. He said this:

"Apple is very excited about the upcoming launch of the iPad. We are currently looking into the various distribution channels, and right now we don't know if the iPad will be available at Best Buy for launch on April 3rd. Check back soon for more information."

Interesting. It seems like he was trying to cover up what she was saying. So it seems, at least, that some Best Buy locations will not have the iPad? At worst no locations will have it. Luckily I'll be at home in Kansas City on that day for Easter weekend, so I can pick it up at The Plaza or Leawood Apple Stores. Sucks if you live in a small town though. Does mail pre-order arrive on a Saturday?
 
Haha, wow. Nobody cares? I figured this would be news since so many people on here were talking about going to Best Buy and other outlets on launch day. I guess everybody buying an iPad is driving to whatever Apple Store is within their range then? Road trip!

Interesting. I'll be at the store rather than risking Saturday delivery. Normally wouldn't be near an Apple Store if I wasn't back at home then.

I believe the Apple Store uses FedEx in the U.S. so good chance since Sat is a normal delivery day for Ground and Express offers it at an extra fee -- which, of course, Apple can negotiate away since its such a big $$ customer.

Everything I've ever pre-ordered from Apple has arrived before or on launch day. Of course the iPad launch is a unique situation since historically product launches have been on a Fri. Also may depend on where the iPads ship from -- U.S. or China.

Hopefully we'll get some more guidance from Apple when the pre-orders start.
 
i am hoping they will be available at Best Buy on launch as well because I have been sitting on a $300 gift certificate waiting for the iPad to come out.
 
Someone posted somewhere in these forums that that Best Buy was already recieving pallets of ipads from Apple marked do not open until March 23rd. Think it was in the waiting for MBP refresh thread.

oh thats a good rumor to hear :). i will keep my fingers crossed.
 
Not really surprised. Best Buy is very hit and miss with all the apple stuff.

I have several within a day's drive, and some have all the apple stuff, some have accessories, some don't even have the full range of iPod offerings.

Pre-order from the web. Beginning of April should be nice, can sit out on the front porch waiting for the fedex guy.
 
Well the main reason I want to buy at Best Buy is the 18 months no interest. If I can get this, I would be more apt to get the 32GB model.
