With both the iPhone4 and the iPad coming out in NZ in the next 10 days I can't decide which to get!

My wife would kill me if I bought both together.

My old 3g is really beinging to show its age, has several cracks and slow as a donkey. (Though I rely on it for the e-mail, synced calendar and several apps which I use many times a day.)

I often need to refer to PDF's and look stuff up on the phone several times a day and reading a lot of information off the iPhone is a chore. (though with the current lack of iPad specific apps my enthusiam has wained a little)

I guess I will have to just bite the bullet and get both and a bunch of flowers for the wife on the way home.

(though no doubt there will a bit of a wait given I will be working on the day they are released and will be sold out by noon.)

This is a tough decision if you really were going to choose between the two. I think I would pick the iPad since you already own the 3G. I have the 3g and the iPad 3G and it is a perfect combination. I love to read on the iPad and use it for a lot of PDFs using iAnnotate. I love that I can highlight onto my iPad.

I think either way you will probably enjoy it. I haven't read as many complaints on the iPad as the iP4.

I do not yet have an iP4, have been waiting on the white. I have to admit I am considering not getting one at all given the problems reported.

Enjoy whichever you decide to get :)

While I believe you should get both (both are amazing devices), I’d probably get the iPhone 4 over the iPad. I’ve always viewed my iPhone as more of a necessity, while my iPad was more of a luxury. Although as the months go on, I’m using my Mac less and my iPad more, so I’m guessing eventually my iPad will be a necessity! :D

Same.

Edge the idea of both in...nice and slowww. :)

Hope it goes well with the wife!

I have both as well and it's really depends on the person using it. I use my Iphone 4 more often because I always have my cell phone with me. My iPad usually stays at home and I'll use it when I'm in bed or on the couch. I love both but I'd have to side with the iPhone.

If you plan on getting both...get the iPad first. Then if your phone goes out you can justify the new phone.

If you get the iPhone first, your wife would never allow you to get the iPad as it's a "luxury" in many people's eyes (maybe yours as well where as I truly need mine for various purposes). If you get the iPad first, you'll eventually need a new phone and wife will be happy to suggest iPhone 4 :)

(I speak from experience).

Yeah,

I think iPad first. The bigger display really makes a difference on what you can do, and how you do it. The web is just awesome on the iPad, and even iPhone Apps are better. (much faster than your iPhone 3G, and beautiful on the big screen.)

Your spouse might also really like the iPad and try to steal it from you. Mine does! That will give you an excuse to go buy the iPhone 4 later. ;)

I was on the wait list for both.

I decided to cancel the iPhone 4 and go with the iPad 3G. Will pick it up later today.

Before iOS4 came out, I would have gone with the iPhone 4 instead of the iPad. However, after upgrading my 3Gs to iOS4 it felt like a new phone. So I figured that I would wait until iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called) and not break my contract at this time to upgrade.

The iPad 3G will provide me with capability that I currently don't have.

Sweet! :)

Steve Jobs said it him self at last weeks press meeting, along with graphics and all: iPhone 4 will be released in NZ, Aussie and 11 other countries on July 30.

And steve never misappropriates the truth :). He just convieniantly manipulates it, so expect to see at least 100 units in each territory split between a myriad of carriers :D

Get both but tell the police beforehand that your wife may be wanting to kill you :)

Or... get both and get rid of the wife :D

But seriously, as some people have said already, get the iPad first and then think about a new iPhone when Apple have (hopefully) redesigned it to fix the antenna problems.

Ha. Decisions, decisions.

I got the iPad, because it came out first (and "needed" it most). I intended to get the iP4 at launch because I was upgrade eligible and hate the iPhone 3G camera, waited two years for a major upgrade. BUT I felt guilty that i was snatching up the latest and greatest apple devices while my girlfriend has an older MacBook and some Sony Ericcson phone or other. Sooo...after the pre-order debaucle of June, I didn't want to make my poor girl wait in line in the hot summer on launch day. Then I awaited the early reviews, user feedback and glad I did so I wasn't blindsided by antennagate. Cool story, bro, yeah I know...but I have to purge.

Now, I waited this long and am plenty happy and occupied by my iPad, that I'm willing to wait for sufficient feedback regarding some possible relief from the signal loss issues, due to a "silent" manufacturing or software fix. (Please no debate, I know nothing may change and the issues are isolated, blah blah blah.) But it boils down to timing, I guess. You will most likely be happy with the iPad NOW, and possibly be able to wait while at least some of the iP4 issues subside in the meantime. Seems the most logical, right? And you can't really over-emphasize how fun the iPad can be.

Suppose that could've (and has) been summed up in a couple lines...but that's no fun! :p I'm one of the verbose, narrative types here on MR. Don't hate. Anyways, hope this helps with your decision, OP! Enjoy 'em either way.

Oh, and arrgh to you too, matey! (Go Bucs! 4 win season, here we go. Ha)

I sold my 3GS back in may so I could get the new iPhone. I got the iPad on the 4th of June instead and don't regret my choice.

Much better experience with the bigger screen IMO. :D

Same issue here, end up getting both.

I had exact same issue. I got iPad when release and decide to back to blackberry. After playing IP4 at apple store, I broke down and order one. Tough decision, but I am happy now to have both:) (still waiting for IP4)

Tell her you get a free IP4 for buying an iPad:)

Or, put it in bumper and tell her it is you old 3G in a new bumper.

I'm personally desperately waiting for some sort of SMS app to come to the iPad through Cydia, then I could really ditch my phone completely. I rarely ever make voice calls and would be fine downgrading it to something a lot cheaper.

I was interested in the iPhone 4, then I got my iPad and I don't even have an interest in upgrading from my 3GS at all.
