Hi all,

I know there have been a couple of threads about this dilemma, however as not to hijack someones thread I decided to give my use case here.

I am now a last years masters student studying towards a MSc at Delft University. We have to read quite a lot of papers these days. Take notes during class etc. I got a really ancient iPad 2 (yes, right the one from 2011!) which is now barely usable, quite slow for reading PDF. Not usable for notetaking as new apps require >iOS 9. So I was thinking about buying a new iPad, some questions/use cases:

- How is Onenote for notetaking in combination with Apple Pencil? I especially like the possibility that it syncs between iPad and Windows. Any other recommendations that offer that?

- Using internet browser to access Brightspace, read papers, Adobe Reader

- Usual stuff: Netflix, browsing, some games (for example looking forward to nostalgic to be released Runscape ;), importing pictures from camera when travelling, maybe slight editing before sending them to family etc.

So I basically now doubt between buying a 128GB iPad 2018 or a second-hand 64GB iPad Pro 10.5. I don't think the 32GB iPad is suitable as importing pictures (RAW) from the camera when travelling is going to be demanding. The 128GB iPad 2018 can be bought online in The Netherlands for 410-415 Euros (about 35-40 Euros cheaper then Apple Retail price). Second-hand 64GB iPad Pros have a asking price starting about 500 Euros.

I don't care about the better camera on the Pro. I don't take serious pictures with iPad, I take pictures with the 6+ (soon to be 8+) or camera. So mostly it is display, A10 vs A10X and the memory (2 - 4 GB RAM). Is that worth the price hike (and second-hand machine) in your opinion for my use case? I am not yet in a hurry to buy, however I doubt that the iPad Pros are going for much less than 500 in a month time. Most are around 600 now.

Thank you!

iPad Pro. No doubt.
OneNote is wonderful with Apple Pencil. And the 120Hz makes it even better.

If you can get an iPad Pro on the budget, I’d get that. However I doubt that a regular iPad will give you noticeably less performance in these use cases, other than the screen being smaller.

The Pro was great for marking up PDFs and taking notes, more screen real estate too.

If you can find one on deep markdown go for it. Not worth the full price (I would feel that way even if my former 12.9 did not go bonkers 11 months in).

Good luck with uni.

Thank you guys for your replies. I was just bidding on some Ebay listings, and apparently I just won one... o_O I got myself a iPad Pro 10.5 64gb in an opened box (nearly new condition) for 422 Pounds, incl. shipping 437, around 490 Euros. So 75 Euros above the price of the iPad 2018 (or 60 above Apple Retail). Good deal you think? I didn't actually expect to win with this bid... let's wait and see if it satisfies my needs. ;)
