I don't know what to choose. I already have an iPod touch, and I want an iPad and an iPhone. What should I get first? I mean, I'll get iPad now, and then after a few months an iPhone. If iPad, should I get it now, or wait for second generation?

Which do you need more, a phone or a bigger screen? Also, consider that the next iPod touch should be here in sept/oct. Maybe that could be your perfect device?
can't you determine what your needs are, how you will use either the iphone or ipad, whether you have a smartphone, netbook or other device, how much money you have and come to some sort of conclusion?
iPhone first I'd say, it's a much more established piece of kit all round. I love my iPad but things do niggle me with it, iOS4 will fix these I think and then it will be the perfect device - and by which time hopefully you can get one
this is easy - get the iPhone 4 first.
you'll be able to use the 4's SIM in the iPad 3G - so you won't have to pay for two data plans.
one thing i would be weary of is getting an iPad when they might announce an update to it in January - but i doubt it would be difficult to sell a 1st Gen iPad 3G at retail cost at that point.

Get the two at the same time, Then you wont have to choose.
If you buy the 16GB wi-fi and a 16GB iPhone, that's just $700 plus tax. Not bad, IMO.

I'm in the same boat.
I've got the cash to get both, but it is a bit excessive.
I think I'm going to get the phone as it meets more needs and my 3g is really beining to wear out.
The pad will be just a (useful) toy really.
Does this work? The terms and conditions of the carriers providing sims for the iPads say that if they detect youre using it in another device they will disconnect it.

I'd say keep the 3GS, the iPhone 4 isn't big enough a step up from the 3GS that it will be better than an iPad.
Yes it's a big step up.
You got 1 Ghz proc., 512 MB RAM, bigger res screen and so on on the iPhone 4. Plus redesigned body.
Now compare that with 3GS and tell me if that's not a big step up.
If its being bought outright without a contract, then yes. But if you want a phone with the antenna detuning all sorted, wait for next year. If you already have an iPhone, get an iPad because it's all about changing your casual computer usage and is that much better for reading books than a 4 inch screen regardless of pixel density.
Are we still certain the redesigned structure of the phone is a pro?
I do like the idea of structural elements having dual purposes, but until apple can find a way around antenna detuning without using a bumper, then why not wait until June 2011? I really feel like Jonathan Ive dropped the ball on that one. Maybe they can find a nonconductive coating to resolve the issue. If I bought the iPhone 4 at launch, it wouldn't have been a deal breaker, I'd have gotten on with using the bumper, but it's a problem. Why buy one right now if you have any generation of iphone already.
If you have an iPad, then 600mhz or 1ghz wont matter in the iPhone. I'm on the bus right now with my iPad, and it's pretty damn good.
With an iPad, my iPhone gets to do phone calls, SMS, quick checks of email whilst on the tube and music. You don't need a 1ghz chip for just those tasks.

I just got my iPad today but if I had to pick one or another I would easily choose the iPhone. The iPad does a few things better such as video and browsing. However it doesn't do anything that an iPhone outright can't. An iPad also can't do anything if you don't have it with you. My iPhone is always with me and I just can't see carrying an iPad around with me when I have a phone.
Been waiting awhile to get my hands on an IPad as they were just launched here where I am today but I am at home and typing this from my MBP. Ipad is sitting on the table not doing anything. I could see professionals with some specific uses that may not agree with me though.
Just my two cents.

quick FYI, the iPad is never meant to replace the iPhone, or ANY phone for that matter. they are two different class of devices. One is a smartphone, the other is a tablet computing device (meant for consumption, not content creation).
i personally bought the iPad becase it was the first device of its kind out in the market at an affordable price. initially bought it as a 'toy' and then moved onto acquiring apps that help my day to day productivity.
another thing is that i never read up on other peoples' ipad reviews, especially if they are doing a mini review of the iPad the day they get their device, unless they have it for at least a month or two.
