Hi Guys,

So I was trying to update my iPad Pro to iPad OS 13.4 using iTunes. So when the iTunes Updating process reached at a stage where it says Extracting Software on the top in iTunes and then it also says “Updating Software” I closed the Apple Smart Cover on my iPad which I used it with my iPad Pro, because I had a call to take.

So after updating it popped up a Error Message on the iTunes Screen which Said error “0xE8000065” now I checked my iPad Software and it is showing it is running the latest iPad OS which I was trying to update which is iPad OS 13.4 my question is, how do I ensure that there was no problem in installing the iPad OS 13.4 on my device, and it has been properly installed on my device. so what about the iTunes error that I got which was “0xE8000065”

What does this mean ? is the iPad OS 13.4 Properly installed on my iPad Pro ?

My feeling is the iPad OS 13.4 did get installed on my device (Though I am not sure hence checking here) this error occurred since I had closed the Apple Smart Cover on the iPad Pro and since itunes after installing the iPad OS 13.4 was not able to establish a connection with the device because of the cover put on the screen. Could that have been the reason for the error message ? So what do I presume has iPad OS 13.4 correctly installed on my device ?

The device is showing it has iPad OS 13.4. But how do I confirm it has been properly installed and all the required installation files have been copied on the device ?

I don't know of any explicit way you can actually verify the installation yourself - there really aren't any diagnostic tools available for the user. You can connect the iPad to iTunes on your computer and then select the Update button and see if iTunes flags a problem of any kind. But I don't know if iTunes just looks at the iPad's version number or if it also does an integrity check, e.g. it looks at a checksum generated on last iOS install that would indicate a full and successful completion (I would hope it did but there's no way to know). Options?

Do the iTunes Update check and if fine, assume the install worked and just use the iPad and watch for any issues.
or
Do a restore to reinstall iOS (erases your data which you'd have to recover from a backup) -

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252

There is an alternative to iTunes called iMazing which has an iOS reinstall option (available only in the licensed version for about $45) which when done in what they call Normal mode preserves your data while reinstalling iOS -

https://imazing.com/guides/how-to-reinstall-or-restore-ios-on-a-malfunctioning-iphone-or-ipad

If it were me, I'd do the first option, give it some usage time, and keep an eye out for problems and resort to the restore if I really thought there were issues. I like the iMazing option (it is a nice alternative to iTunes) but it is pricey for the full version.

Also just got off from Apple Technical Support and they also said the same thing, Connect your iPad again to iTunes and check if it gives any update option or any message ? If not, it is safe to Presume that the installation went properly and I am fine.

But I had a follow up question here lets say for e.g. if the iPad OS 13.4 has 10 installation files (Hypothetically speaking) Could it be possible that all the 9 files have been installed except for 1 file which is still not installed, So the device may have got the new iPad OS 13.4 but it may not be working to its fully optimum level ? can such a possibility be there ?

Given what support said, it sounds like iTunes may do an integrity check, e.g. looking at a checksum generated during install. If the install is doing a checksum verification then missing elements would be detected via checksum mismatch. I think you can assume the install worked correctly.

So what would iTunes do? behave? if there were missing elements with my iPad OS 13.4 installation ?

I would assume it would provide an error message to you like this:
