Question to the people using iPad OS16 beta. I have seen tons of videos but none of them actually show this or confirm this. Can you have an app which takes full screen like absolutely full screen on the external monitor when using Stage manager ? And in the same way can I have two apps in 50-50 Screen like split half screen on the External Monitor Using Stage Manager ?

I’ve seen full screen in videos. I imagine 50-50 is also possible but always in Stage manager view, not in the standard split view like you have now.

Based on this video, you are indeed able to run apps in full screen. I have not been able to find anything on running two apps side-by-side in this manner, but I assume that too will be possible.

Huge respect to Fjordstorm since he created the concept of Stage Manager! He deeserves to have a huge channel!

As for the question - I have tested iPadOS16, - apps on the external display are never full screen they are maybe 99% full screen and have a thin black bar around them. - that you can use to resize the app. Its not perfect and a problem if using remotedesktop since it will make your picture not clear but blury due to resizing.

also SpitScreen and SlideOver doesnt work, and this is a very bad decision and I hope apple will make it work. Please write to https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html and ask or SplitScreen and SlideOver to be included while in StageManager!!

Apps can definitely run natively in full screen. I tried it today for the first time with my Studio Display. Every time I went to open an app, it kept launching in full screen by default.

No, no they cant.
Apps cant run in 100% fullscreen on external display while stage manager is on… what are you on about?

Post a screenshot and I’ll point the obvious to you

Take it easy mate.

I'm just pointing out the obvious, an app in full screen on an external display while stage manager is on:

did you intentionally not post a screenshot because you figured out that app is not 100% fullscreen but actually scaled down as I already wrote 3 times?

Mate, relax already.

What is it, the corners being curved resulting in not taking up absolute 100% of the pixels on the display?

it has to do wirh that. wirh certain apps that need to display full picture like remote work - your screen gets scaled and smushed - its quite bad

Ah so more an issue of scaling? I do notice there's 2 options for scaling when you check settings. The one that my pic shows is "show more content".

I know with my Mac on this studio display, its running 2560x1440 @ 2x. Do we have any idea whats happening with iOS on a 5K display like this?

I was trying to upload an actual screenshot but was getting an error on MR with the upload. Have you been using it yourself at all?

isn't this Full Screen ? If not then what is Full Screen ? What is the guy talking about ?

I have to say for iOS apps and using full screen they do look good. There's some jankiness when moving windows and resizing, but its also beta 1.

Ok so lets explain. If your monitor is 2560x1440 and you need tk show a remotedesktop on it - so a fullscreen image - your remote desktop will be scaled and in fact - 2555x1435 lets say. which seems like not a big deal - but due to the way LCD monitors work - image on the screen gets very blury and imprecise. So its bad.

I'm guessing this is the scaling issue.

Info on the full screen screenshot below. Dimensions 6016 x 3384 (which I believe is the resolution of the 6K display).

So is the iPad rendering the external desktop at 6K and then downsampling to 5K (5120 x 2880)?

Ughhh, so even if the source is a clean 2560x1440 there's tiny scaling happening?

You are both living there? I was born there (and grew up there) from a mixed family but I haven't lived there (or in Italy for that matter) for over 20 years...

What a small world. No, I live in Canada (first generation), my family came from Sicily.

I downloaded iPad iOS 16 yesterday and it doesn't show the Stage Manager icon. Isn't Stage Manager supposed to be included?
It only supports M1 iPads, so, it supports the 3rd gen 11-inch iPad Pro, the 5th gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and the iPad Air 5. All other iPads do not have it.
