The behavior in iOS 12 is you can’t change the quality to higher than 720p but now that 13 has desktop browsing can you change a video to 1080p, 4K or even hdr? If I can do this I will really be tempted to install iPad os 13. Thanks.
Yes that what I did with iOS 12 but you can’t force 1080p only 720p. iOS 13 did fix this issue but unfortunately the iPad Pro 11” won’t do HDR with YouTube or YouTube.com like my iPhone XS Max does.https://www.imore.com/how-request-desktop-version-website-your-iphone-or-ipad
I use this feature for a lot of things including YT features like you describe and sometimes a site doesn't offer up Reader, but in desktop mode it will.
Yes but when on weak WiFi or signal is rather it buffer 1080p on some videos. No worries I already upgraded to iPad OS 13 and now it’s working like it should of. Not blaming anything in Apple but the mobile site sucks and the desktop site never appeared correctly on iOS 12. Thanks everyone. There is an auto resolution that will display in 1080p even though it will show 720p as the max.
Are you able to use picture in picture using the desktop version of the site on the iPad?
Yes. Same way you can in iOS 12. Make the video full screen and then you get the native controls. You can go PiP and even play in the background when the iPad is locked.
That’s why I don’t use the app. For whatever reason YouTube blocks it even if you have premium.Wait really?! I never knew this! I just tried it out on my iOS 12 iPad and now I’ve got my favorite live channel in PIP mode. You just made my day!
iPad Pro 11” here and I haven’t had issues yet with this. The only issue I have is sometime full screen won’t work and I have to refresh the site. How’s everyone’s experience with running a PiP on the iPad from the YouTube site for longer periods? Does it freeze or shut down if you have a bunch of other windows/apps open? I’m using a 10.5 iPad.
