Is it possible to remove the new tabs at the top? It’s driving me crazy as the tabs overlap each other. I liked the previous version better.
 
I see you can change that in iOS but I don’t see it in settings on the ipad :(
It's there in the Safari settings. I just double checked. Before updating to the latest software it was also available as a setting when pressing the aA symbol directly in Safari but it seems to be gone now.

For the life of me I can’t find it on my iPad Pro safari settings. I see separate tab bar and compact tab bar but nothing to get rid of the tabs …

I believe you're correct, you can only minimize them making them compact and increasing the site window. But the settings are different on a phone.
