iPad OS15 Safari Question

[C7 POWER]

On this new iPad OS, the Safari is so hard to navigate now. For the life of me, how do you close a webpage if you only have one page up? The only way I get the X to close one is if I open a second tab. Is there no way now to close the current tab you are on? Very frustrating how complicated they have made this now lol

Click on the 4 little squares top right then get an ‘x’ on the remaining tab that you can close.
