Hi All;

Has anyone purchased the Pages for the iPad and exported to Word on the Mac? I am debating on purchasing Pages for the iPad but worried that it wont import from the Mac with complete formatting and then after editing and saving as a Doc be formatted correctly on the Mac. I am currently doing allot of word processing (resume's, cover letters, etc. ya, got bit by the recession bug) and since MS (bad word) is not working on an iPad version I am looking for options.

Thanks All.

It will import Pages '09, or Doc format Word files.

Not all formatting is available but from what you're talking about, I would expect it to handle those types of documents really well.

I haven't played with it much, but it'll open .doc and save to .doc.

I don't have any complexly formatted documents, but I think it'd be ok.

I haven't had any issues.

I do know that fonts are a problem overall. Not sure is there s a fix for that.

Matthew:thank you for your input

Max: thanks but can you be more specific on the font issue? Is it just pinging different fonts or what?

Pages is great for creation & desktop publishing, but falls apart as a word processor. If you import a Doc file, it leaves out A LOT of formatting, which just won't do for a lot of people.

There really isn't a whole hell of a lot more you can do since MS said they probably won't be making an office suite for the iPad & since there isn't much else. Google Docs isn't really all that good either (although it's currently broken for the iPad).

sorry to go a bit ot here, but has anyone been able to get pages to open PDF files?

thx

One can hope that zoho.com will create an iPad version of their pretty good (and free) replica of MS Word, which is web-based.

Why would you want to use Pages to open a PDF?
There are a lot of other apps (free and paid) that do a really nice job at managing PDFs.

I just thought it would be nice to keep my documents within iWork.

Pages for iPad strips all comments and tracked changes from Mac Pages and Word files. That's a problem if you're wanting to review a document on the go.

I spent a few hours playing with Pages today. While it's fine for basic text documents (and will export to PDF and .doc reasonably well) it definitely isn't ready for documents with complex formatting.

It chokes on tables that extend off the page on to the next one, even on a document that Pages '09 handles fine (and created in Pages 09 nonetheless). And there seems to be no way to change font size of a cell in a table on a per-cell basis other than small/medium/large (though it will display said formatting if created on the Mac).

I've also had a few crashes and other quirkiness (tables not staying were I put them, etc.).

Hopefully it will become much more robust, but I suspect that Apple isn't going after the folks who work with complex documents.

hi peeps,

just wondering if Pages for iPad allows you to password protect your documents/open password protected MS Word documents etc?

thanks!
