My charge was auto declined by my CC company for safety reasons, I had to call and allow it, of course it was the pre authorization charge.

Now what happens when it gets charged again when the Ipad is shipped? will it get rejected again as a new charge? Just what is a pre authorization? Does Apple place a hold on that money with your CC comapny? is it the same transaction?

Is the charge just in limbo, or does Apple reverse the charge and do a completely new one? Anyone go through this with your CC company? did the second charge go through when your Ipad shipped?

Yep, same thing here. I actually deleted the order and will probably get a pre-paid Visa and pay for my iPad that way as it is sometime difficult dealing with our CC company. Or, I'll wait until they come out and just buy one in person. No worries, really, as I'm very happy and thankful to be able to buy one.

Check into the pre-paid limits. Many don't exceed $500.

No problem. Apple lets you split transactions across two cards so you can deal with it that way.

Mine wasn't pre paid CC, just a level of protection by my CC company that I have to verify certain charges. Anyway I made a call to Apple and it seems the Pre-authorization is really a hold, even though it's not charged yet, it will be the same transaction. So when the Ipad ships it will not be a new charge to be auto-declined by my CC company.

So Apple doesn't charge the card & then remove it, and make a new charge later, the transaction is the same one, just stays on hold.

This happened to me - mainly because i wasn't expecting the 3G to be pre-authorized before the wifi shipped, and the money was in savings instead of checking.

As soon as I transfered it they hit it with another pre-auth.

I'm watching and waiting for this one - I was afraid to move it back to savings to muck up my order!

All that said, i can't order a Switcheasy case because they use a hong kong addy and my credit union rejects all those charges. HMPH.

Just called my Credit Card issuer and found out that any pre-auth gets flagged. Very interesting but I guess it's better to have some red flags go up once in awhile than to have someone run amok in my account racking up tons of charges. As far as the prepaid CC, I'll just go to Apple and get a gift card for the amount of the iPad and then buy the iPad with that. It's all good!
