I have been using my iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) for past 3.5 years. Got it in a deal when the next edition was released in 2018. Apart from the lack of usb c no complaints. I have been using it regularly for past 3.5 years and I generally handle my iPad very carefully.no drop, no exposure to high temperature. Have heard about the white spot complaints over years, but haven’t noticed it in my iPad so far till last week. And this happened.
Is this the white spot? My concern is,is this a benign problem or is the display deteriorating? I would love to keep it for another couple of years as I have just purchased an M2 air now and I like the dedicated fingerprint sensor this model has.
I would be ok if this is a benign issue. Or do I need to do something specific?

My 10.5 got a white spot after about a week. I just got used to it. I finally retired it a few months ago and just mounted it to a fridge in the kitchen because it would randomly restart when it was slightly twisted or pressure put on the screen when holding it. The white spot never got any worse, it was just there.

I have the 10.5 white spot too. It’s annoying but honestly I don’t notice it much anymore unless I’m specifically looking for it. It hasn’t “grown” or anything since it appeared years ago. That said. I hope to update the iPad one day soon and never have to see it again. Hopefully.

Thanks for the responses. I tried changing it to dark mode. Not noticing the white sports at all now apart from web pages which have prominent white background.
this thing is still snappy enough on iPad OS 15.6,so hopefully no need to change it for now.

My white spot was faint at the beginning but in around 6 months it became very evident and spread somewhat. I use dark mode, but I can't really use Word pages, something I do a lot on my iPads. I could get worse or not, there are no rules

I had a small spot on mine but what got me to upgrade was the constant reloading of things in the background. The multitasking was terrible.

Same. Things were fine until iOS 12 but iPadOS 13 hit 4GB RAM and lower devices pretty bad.

I waited until 8+GB, though. Just an extra 2GB on the 2018/2020 1TB (6GB) didn’t seem like it would be good for longevity.

There is an impression that RAM doesn't matter in iOS as the software is optimised very well. yes its optimised in sense that the device won't lag. but that is at the cost of forced killing of background apps and browser tabs and essentially multitasking becomes impossible. that is why RAM is the most important spec for me when getting a new device.

Yep that’s it. I have it too and now it also developed these yellow bands across the edges. 10.5 2017 as well.

White spot and LCD bleed resulted in a trade-in offer of $0 this past November, so I changed my mind, returned the 11” M2 and got the 10.5 back, figuring there’s still some useful time left [using dark mode]. I’m currently tempted by the Apple refurbished 11” M 1, but thinking I’ll make the best of the good things this one can still offer.
