ipad pro 10.5 256gb wifi+lte or 512gb wifi?

hello guys,

i just bought my 10.5 inch ipad pro 256gb wifi+lte but im thinking maybe i should exchange for 512 wifi only..im no way in a situation to spend another $200, plus i do not want to lol. i never used lte ipad before and is it a must? i only got it this time around because i have unlimited data through verizon. i have always gotten max storage ipads in the past so storage was never a problem. decisions decisions..

Note, unlimited data with Verizon means $20/month to add the iPad to your plan or $240/year and that's an ongoing expense as long as you keep the iPad on the plan. There's also, possibly, activation fees whenever you add the iPad to your plan if you're thinking of just adding data when you need it then cancelling after.

I get LTE for my iPads because I use it everywhere. Heck, I use it far more often than my iPhone so avoiding the hassle of always having to reconnect to the iPhone's hotspot is worth the $10/mo to me (16GB shared data plan).

Just a thought, instead of leaving it unused, you could always cancel it and save the $20 per month. Anyway, up to you to decide which is more useful for your particular circumstances.

Assess your storage usage. If it is always below 128GB, don’t bother exchanging for another one.
512GB is for those loving storing a LOT of stuff in their iPad or iPhone. You may not even need that amount at all.

I would avoid the LTE model if you already have hot spot as part of your current phone plan. I wasted $130 on my LTE iPad Air 2 and the $10 monthly fee. I only took that tablet out maybe 20 times in 16 months of ownership before selling it. And because I have a iPhone I don't even have to mess around with phone settings once you have connected the hotspot the first time. On the iPad go to settings, Wi-FI and select your iPhone from the personal hotspot. You don't even have to take your phone out of pocket to enable hotspot.

And if you're on Verizon's new unlimited plan the monthly cost for tablets is now $20 per month which makes getting locked into a 2 year payment plan even more ridiculous. That's $240 extra per year unless you pay off the tablet. So if you make payments for the full 24 month the total cost is $610 minimum ($240x2+$130). Thanks nearly the cost of the base 10.5" model for a feature you may already pay for.

I would base it on your capacity need over the connectivity aspect first. If you have a solid 40%+ of free space, I’d leave it. If you’re tipping on 30% or less of space then I’d favor the 512. I got the 256 LTE. I take my iPad everywhere. When there’s no wifi or my car gps is not cooperating that LTE comes in handy for me.

Totally agree; my first-ever iPad was Wi-Fi only, but never again.

I will likely always get my iPads with cellular.

Considering you have unlimited data, use iCloud with the LTE iPad and stay at the same capacity of 256gb. I decided to work off of the cloud a lot more and am very happy with the seamlessness.

I'm getting really great LTE speeds on my 10.5 256gb. My iPhone 7Plus has actually been about 50% slower at the same time and spots as the iPad. I have AT&T Unlimited Plus. Of course these speeds will fluctuate greatly with more users, but the fact is, my LTE is instant/constant.

24/7, no tethering or connecting to wifi. My experience with most public hotspots is that they are adequate but still have gaps in coverage.

I had cellular on my iPad Air and Air 2 “back in the day” when I got my 13 and 9.7 inch pros I opted for wifi only thinking that I could just use hotspot. For me it was a terrible decision. Sure Apple has made it a lot easier to connect to hotspot, but nothing is easier than just having it there all the time. I just got my 10.5 inch pro today and got the cellular model and hooked it up to my Verizon unlimited data plan and couldn’t be happier.

If you’re going to be using your iPad a lot outside of wifi, or connecting to hotspot all the time is a big hassle then cellular is very much worth it.

The big difference is the Unlimited Data. Now that AT&T has jumped on board it is a no brainer to get the LTE for me. I did buy the 12.9 LTE but found myself checking my data (I had 20gb AT&T at the time) to be sure I wasn't dropping gigs of data daily. Now, I don't even look for wifi anymore, but do wifi it at home since it have a 250gigabit cable service.
