iPad Pro 10.5 for University Note Taking?

I am currently a medical student dealing with a lot of powerpoint and PDF slides. I wonder if I could go all digital with an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil to annotate on the powerpoint and PDF during lectures. And read all my notes from the iPad. Has anyone tried this? How well does it work? I don't plan to get an ASK as I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro at home and if I have to type a lot I would just use the MacBook Pro instead. Thanks for any recommendations and advices!

I do this for comp Sci with my 9.7 iPP with Apple pencil. Should be even better imo

It's quite possible. I use notability for this. You will still need your Macbook to manage the files in the background (e.g.: convert ppt slides to pdf, upload everything to dropbox), but you will appreciate your iPad's long battery life, thin and light form factor and inbuilt 4g (if you opt for the latter).

And for what it's worth, I never saw the value of an iPad especially for school until I actually got one. Now I take this thing everywhere with me and feel like a hobo whenever I have to type something into my phone for notes. The iPad changed everything about the way I learn

Google just give me results that the app can import... but it says nothing about annotating and editing..

I'm wondering if this might help you out. 3 minutes in he talks about importing and annotating PowerPoint in notability. It's a REALLY old video but there ya go

I teach and produce the majority of my content in power point and then add additional notes and examples onto the slides directly during class. To do this easily with notability, I print my slides to pdf from my Mac. You can do this and save to Dropbox then import them from Dropbox on the iPad into notiability, however I have the notability app on my Mac as well so when I print it gives me option to send to notability. Notability stays in sync through iCloud between devices. Once class starts I actually project notability each slide is on page and add notations as I go through my class.

As a student if you had the slides ahead of time, you could either print them to notability or even open them directly using the notability app if they are shared with you from your professor as .pdf files. Either way I would imagine this being a great way to keep notes, but with iCloud sync you will have access to them on all your Apple devices.

iPad Pro 10.5, Apple Pencil and Notability are a godsend. I went from carrying multiple folders and notebooks, to just my single iPad. It's amazing. Also there is a way to convert ppt into PDF if I'm not mistaken. (Might be limited to iOS 11)

I would still recommend getting the ASK, especially if you intend to only bring the IPP to class and leave your MacBook Pro at home. The ASK doubles as a cover for the IPP but also allows you to conveniently edit assignments/presentations on the go.

easy to import. I use keynote and im sure its just the same with powerpoint. You go to the ppt or keynote presentation and “send a copy” or “print as pdf” and you should have the menu come up with all of the apps you can open the ppt in. From there you just click the notability one and boom. Youre learning about the gall bladder.

I also use notability. I have used it since before the Apple Pencil. It is truly a fantastic app, especially for students.

You kids have it so easy today!!!!!

Goodnotes and notability are amazing, and PDF annotators have come a long way.

I think most students should be using an iPad for notes/textbooks. Having everything in one place and not having to carry a back breaking backpack is something the iPad is well suited to provide.

It doesn't, Notes only recognizes your handwriting and make it searchable.
Nebo converts it into formatted text.

I'm hoping the Apple Office apps will fully support the Pencil in iOS 11. Seems natural that Keynote, Pages, and even Numbers should allow you to ass handwritten markup to documents without requiring third party applications.

I often think back to high school and college when I was constantly carrying around a backpack loaded with hardcover books and notebooks. Having something like an iPad back in the 90s would have made my life so much easier.
