Did you miss this? All the rumors have been saying that the 10.5 would fit into the 9.7 form factor, but the new iPad is simply larger! Really not a fan of this direction as I like the mini and don't feel the mid and large size options need to get closer together.

None of the credible rumors suggested the 10.5" would be the same physical size as the 9.7" device.

It is the same weight as the ipad air (1) and the current 2017 ipad. But remember when the iphone 6 came out, and it was heavier than the 5s/5, but it "felt" lighter? Do you think that would be the case here?

You are correct. Everyone also says the screen size is 20% bigger. That isn’t true. The screen size is 8% bigger. Resolution is 18% bigger. Neither are 20%

The screen is 20% bigger according to the area, which is more meaningful than saying that the diagonal is 8% bigger, since the diagonal improvement varies dramatically for the same screen size depending on the screen ratio.

It’s 18% not 20 but I get your point

I was actually wondering how much larger the display is over the 9.7 iPad. So the display is 8% is larger, resolution is 18% and the reduction of the side bezels is 40% Smaller. I always appreciate the technical side of things.

That's why I decided to go with the 12.9 gen 2. the 10.5 didn't feel substantially different enough in my hand to warrant spending the $ on. I had a moment and decided to spend money needlessly and figured I would be happy with the one I got. Glad I did.

I'm expecting an updated mini next year, either pro or shrunken iPad 2017. Apple has obviously been setting up the reduced-bezel design language for the next round of iPhone and iPad and now that has been done the iPad mini, Mac minis and Watch should see some love. I'm pretty sure the 10.5 will stick around for a longer life much like the iPad 2 and Air2 did.

No, the display is about 20% larger, not 8% larger.

Did you miss this?
No I did not.

I'd rather they kept it same size as the 9.7", but I'm adapting to it. Any bigger(taller) starts to become a problem for me that'll push me to the hopefully updated mini.
