does anyone else have a loose power button? Mine has a little bit of movement and it makes a small rattle sound when moved around. It's very similar to the power button on the 5/5s/SE. I don't know if I should exchange it because the screen is absolute perfection.

Absolutely exchange it. If the new one doesn't have a perfect screen, exchange it again. For what they cost, there is no reason you shouldn't have a perfect screen AND buttons that aren't tight and rattle free.

We have seen bad volume buttons - offset half way causing only 50% of each button to work. Bad "clicky' and loose home button, couple of bad screens.

It was designed to not be loose or having play like the iPhone SE. As SDColorado stated, take advantage of the return IF you feel it's necessary. But the buttons should have tight tolerances based off my usage.

That's not a bad idea. But with all my iPads, including testing the Pro's, the buttons all have tight tolerances with zero play. It's just a matter if the OP can tolerate the button play.

That and my worry would be that something that isn't `right, but can be tolerated now, eventually worsens to something that can not be tolerated once the return period expires. Of course, if that happens, it can be remedied under Apple Care, but it may be easier to address now rather than later.

And personally, if Apple wouldn't repair the home button if it was out of the return period, I wouldn't be interested in a replacement iPad (I would rather just opt for new, even though the replacements are great). Sometimes they make exceptions depending how far outside the return period, but better to take advantage of the return period if it's still applicable for a return and have a new one.

I just got my iPad Pro replaced with a new one becuase of the power button issue. They gave me a hard time to just get it fixed or replaced.

I would think that issue should be covered under the one year limited warrenty? I was just outside my 14 day return period

I had this, for the first time since owning so many iOS devices, on the very first 10.5 I bought. It was an instant return (the uneven screen color contributed to my extreme haste as well ;) for another.

Assuming you returned this to Apple, which at least they allowed you to make the return outside the 14 day return policy. Out curiosity, why did Apple give you a hard time?

Yeah it was at the apple store in a mall. They multiple employees saying the broken button still turned the device on and off. Then they said it was normal for only the 10.5" iPad so they made me test the other 10.5" in the store. Then they wanted me to use my apple care incident to get it fixed/replaced.

Maybe i should have been more forceful from the beginning but I just got done arguing with Ford to get my car fixed for free (transmission still under warranty)

Good to hear you at least had it replaced. I could see why they would want to replicate the issue, to see if if it's a problem. But Fortunately they made the exception just outside your return policy. I personally don't think the buttons should have any rattling on the iPad and others who have that model has not had any button play.

It's normal. Every single iPhone and iPad I've owned since 2010 have had the slight loose/wiggly power and volume controls. To test if it was normal I checked 3 different Apple suppliers and Store's displays, (Best Buy, Simply Mac, Apple.) Then checked and compared all my own iPads:
Air 1, Mini 2, Air 2, Mini 4, iPad Pro 12.9" 1st Gen, iPad Pro 9.7", iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd Gen. iPhone 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7.

It is absolutely normal to have a slight give/looseness, years ago and even just last year I asked several Apple techs, Reps on the phone and in-store, Best Buy and Simply Mac reps, and then checked with a good friend from Apple, and all confirmed without doubt or delay that it's completely normal.

Perhaps slightly loose is one thing. But if it's rattling, then I disagree with you. It shouldn't be rattling. iPad buttons generally have very little tolerance or side to side play. And this coming from an iPad owner who has plenty Of experience. If I can audibly hear the buttons rattling during movement or in general, then no, it's not normal.

For example, The iPhone SE for example, has a rattling power button, which is prevalent across the SE line. If it's intended that way from the factory, then that's one thing. But inconsistency with rattling power buttons on iPads shouldn't be.

I am out of my warranty window and my down volume is stuck now.

It was just rattling 6 months ago.

No, there's absolutely no play in my power button, home button or volume buttons on my iPad Pro 9.7. I'd say it's something that is present in a lot of devices, but it's not supposed to be that way.

Is this still an ongoing issue?

There is no way to measure if this is an ongoing issue per se. But it has been reported on here obviously, but who knows what one iPad thread says about the millions of iPads produced and sold that may never exoerience loose or rattling buttons.
