my ipad pro 10.5 is stuck on headphone mode since PB 5
i can use blue tooth headphones(airpods) but cannot use external built in speakers
when testing the sounds the speakers work, for example ringtone, and messages
however once back to home screen the volume indicator is Headphones.
it only happened since PB5
the ipad has never had a wired headphone connected prior as i have Airpods

any suggestions, is it ios 11 related, or has something gone wrong with the hardware headphone jack?

Had this with my 6s plus on two separate phones. Apple replaced the hardware as it wasn’t rectifiable in the software!

When I select a ringtone the speakers kick in?
Then multi task back to headphones
I think it’s software

I cut a q-tip in half and dampened it a bit on the end. I then cleaned the jack and found a lot of lint in it. This was for my iPhone a year or two ago. I thought it was software but it turned out to be lint. Worth a shot for you if you haven't tried.

You can see why they're phasing out headphone jacks.
Apple just makes crap ones!

OP, I'd love to believe it's software, but I had the same thing with my iPhone. iOS devices will always play ringtones through the speaker as your phone / iPad will ring through your headphones and speaker if you're not on silent mode.

Take it to Apple and have them assess it. Or test is the way I did by resetting the device to factory. If it still thinks you have headphones plugged in, well then you know

I had tried the reset-reboot method but that never worked
I fixed the problem by plugging in a set of headphones, and then powering off normally, then waited 1 minute and pulled the plug out, then powered back on, and its working now.

Have anyone else found any other solution to this? I have the exact same problem and have also never plugged in headphones cause I only used AirPods with them. Currently on IOS 11.2.2 and tried ianrip’s solution but still haven’t gotten any sucesss.
