I did a quick photo comparison using my cat as the subject. First image is from the iPhone 12 Pro, the second from my new iPad 11 2021, both using the wide cameras:

I don’t take pictures with my iPad; I was just curious what the new “upgraded“ camera was up to. Answer, not much. Feels like it’s from around the iPhone 6s era.

Nice cat. Written that, the quality of neither of this images is impressive. The iPhone took the better photo though.

It looks more like it came from an iPhone XR. Then again, camera upgrades were incremental up until then.
You might be right. I did another test with my 2028 iPad 11 vs 2021 and the 2018 was even worse.

Seems odd to me that the 2021 iPad Pro camera isn’t even up to iPhone 11 quality…

I have iPhone 13 Mini, and when it comes to Short distance both iPad and iPhone are great for video calling or when you are talking to a client via zoom or meeting. However, every iPads out there like my iPad 10 tends to have poor quality when it comes to Long Distance shooting a picture outside, it just lacks the zoom.. and zooming is much better. More detailed on an iPhone.

I also think that iPad Pro M1/M2 camera is par with iPhone XS or worse iPhone 8 only. Which is still great, like who would take an iPad to take a picture on Public.

However, in general, both the iPhone 12 Pro and the new iPad 11 2021 have high-quality cameras with advanced features such as image stabilization and night mode. The iPad 11 2021 has an updated front-facing camera with a wider field of view and improved low-light performance, but the iPhone 12 Pro has a more advanced camera system overall with three rear cameras and a LiDAR scanner. Ultimately, the best camera for you will depend on your personal preferences and how you plan to use the device. It's great to experiment with both and see which one produces images that you are happy with!

Multiple factual errors here about the iPad camera system.

Digital noise is showing more on the second photo [but both have it]... Is this the actual photo or a cropped version?

The sensor comes from the iPhone 8 generation devices. Keep in mind Apple designs the iPad rear camera to take photos of documents, so it’ll always be several generations behind iPhone.
