Hi all,

I am a certified 12 inch macbook superfan - had mine for 3 years and used it 8-9 hours a day to run my business making video tutorials for education and creating a website - also used it as a teacher. Love the portability, fanless design.
Last month my macbook burned out (the battery life was nearly gone, a key fell off and it became sluggish for my video editing). I traded it in a few weeks ago for a some some apple store credit and now in a dilemma what to buy. I've tried the macbook air and macbook pro in store in the past and found them to heavy for me and also i really don't want fans kicking in. I imagine the new macbook pro 13 if it follows the same path as 16 inch will be even heavier.
There are obvious rumours of an ARM macbook 12 inch but i really need something now - even though that sounds ideal.

I have been using my daughter's 5th gen ipad temporarily for the past week to edit my website with new mouse support, edit videos in luma fusion and it's been good. The screen is obviously too small coming from a 12 inch but I am thinking whether an iPad Pro 11 inch and the new magic keyboard would be good option (atleast until new macbook ARM). The weight of the ipad pro 11 with magic keyboard is about 100 grams heavier than macbook 12 inch but as I carried the macbook around in the a sleeve as well then the weight would be comparative. I did order the magic keyboard and ipad pro 12.9. The magic keyboard came first and there were issues with the material and a wonky usb-c port. More importantly it was heavy (needs to be though to make it study on lap) but the ipad 12.9 i think would be too big and unweildly for me coming from a 12 inch macbook - i could tell that just by looking at the magic keyboard. I cancelled the ipad pro 12.9 order and am returning the magic keyboard for it.
One thing I did notice about the magic keyboard is how it suspends the ipad screen closer to you than a traditional laptop, effectively making the screen seem bigger.
I am now thinking whether the 11 inch ipad pro would be a good option and was wondering if anyone else has made that move or thinking about it?

I am currently using my 11" iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard Folio as my main computing device and I'm loving it. I previously had the 12.9" for a year and regretted it after the initial honeymoon phase. For me, the 12.9" wasn't mobile enough.

I use my iPad to edit photos and for general word processing, and in both use cases I haven't felt limited in any way. Coming from the bigger display of the 12.9", I cannot say that I'm missing much with regards to screen real estate. I prefer the wider aspect ratio, as it allows to fit more content horizontally relative to the screen size - especially for split screen use.

The advantage in portability on the 11" is a huge factor for me - and performance-wise the 11" does everything I need from it.

The iPad Pro truly feels like a successor to the 12" MacBook.

My 12” MacBook is still staying as I found that no iPad Pro with what every keyboard will be able to do everything that a fully fledged laptop can do.

They can do similar things but I don’t like compromises. One is a laptop the other is my sloth machine that I can use for some work things.

I know what you mean - I am finding the ipad (even 5th gen) is better for video editing though than my MacBook 12 inch. Maybe iPadOS 14 will move things on further.
