i didn’t think it would, but I did upgrade from an iPP 10.5 to the 11. So the first thing I noticed was that I can no longer use the split keyboard, which I used exclusively ever since it was a thing.

To you guys who are running the beta iOS 13 on your iPP 11, is the split keyboard available once again? If not this might be a deal breaker for me, might end up returning it and going back to my 10.5 which I was going to pass down to my son.

And why did Apple take away the split keyboard on the 11?

In iOS 13 all iPads can use the new small floating keyboard. You can’t split it in two though.

Why they removed it in the first place? I have a vague memory it was Rene Ritchie from imore that said that the guy who worked on the split keyboard quit his job at Apple. So for some reason no one else picked up the development for new devices. Or they just abandoned it and started working on the new small keyboard seen in ios13.

I recall his mini 5 review being very obsessed with the ease of typing with two thumbs holding it in portrait. Insert request to Apple for Mini Pro here. Hey, autocorrect just capitalized Mini Pro, maybe it’s coming!!!

Why would they?
They did, and on the 12.9 as well. I read that on the 12.9 if the screen view mode is set to zoom, the keyboard can be split again, but this work around is not available on the 11.

I can’t believe the split keyboard is going away completely on 13 for all iPad models. I quite like the iPad Pro 11 hardware, I guess I’ll live with it with the new floating keyboard.

it’s not gone on all iPad models. Still works fine on iPad mini.

Thanks for the correction. So it’d be safe to assume the 10.5 will also retain the split keyboard. If that’s the case I’d be leaning towards returning the iPad Pro 11.

The split keyboard is still available on iPad Air 2 on iPadOS. Not on the 11-inch sadly. It would make more sense than ever till gave the split keyboards on the larger screens.

It’s not worth returning.
Unfortunately, for me, I’m just so acclimated to the split keyboard and I’m unwilling to spend the money on the latest and greatest without it, given that the older iPads will retain it on iOS 13.

It just makes no sense to me why it was removed.
