I’ve been using the IPP 11 M1 + MK for the last 2 years. Been very happy with it and had no intention of upgrading for years, but found an amazing deal on a new MBA M1 512GB for 699€ (500€ off retail price), so I bought it but haven’t opened it yet.

Main reason for buying it is for work and the amazing deal found.

The IPP has 120hz and 600 nits, touch panel and faceid. The MBA has better battery, more storage (IPP is 128GB), bigger screen, better keyboard and trackpad, desktop OS, TouchID, etc, but old design.

I don’t want to keep both devices, as I don’t see the point. The iPad gets used more for leisure, not work related stuff. The MBA could be used for both, and I have a big phone for couch use (S23+).

Considering the deal, and that I could sell the IPP + MK for a good price, what would you guys do? I might miss the 120Hz and 2 in 1 use of the IPP, but indeed the MBA seems like a more practical keeper.

Unfortunately M1 MBA screen is not as good as M2 MBA. A bit smaller and some people (including myself) found that M2 screen is more eyes-friendly.
Anyway, some people also prefer M1 tapper design.
If I were you (subjective opinion) I would wait for M2 MBA as single device. Also it seems you’re not in rush to trade in, and you’re already happy with the current iPad setup.

I have a nice 16” M1 MBP but I still enjoy using my iPad for things which I could use the Mac for if I had to. You should consider keeping both at least until you know how much you enjoy using your iPad.

I have a MBA M1 and an Ipad Pro 11 M1. I've never been a heavy iPad user, but I found this iPad pro on Facebook and bought it second hand for a pretty good deal. The screen is awesome and I think it's a great size. But honestly I only use it to watch movies on while I use my MBA to do work on.

I may be in the minority on this opinion, but I just can't get a good workflow going with the iPad, whether it is using Office, or editing videos, etc. I don't have a magic keyboard but I have a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard that I use with it.
But I will say as the iPad works a lot better IMO for consuming media compared to the MBA, the IPP screen seems/is better and the size is a lot better for watching media on.

So I think it depends on what your use case is going to be for the devices.

If you only want one device then the Mac is better.

Bigger screen, more storage, better battery life, probably more durable.

You lose touch screen but gain a full OS and 120hz is a much bigger deal with a tablet than a laptop.

Maybe you could sell your keyboard for the iPad since the laptop will replace it for productivity and keep the iPad.

I don't think the idea of an iPad or even a surface tablet are ever a complete replacement for a laptop. They are kind of a compromise in form and function. A tablet will always be primarily a consumption device you can use in a pinch for productivity.

The one caveat is for artists who use an Apple pencil and procreate to create artwork. This can be a professional use and there really isn't a better alternative.

But when you just want to watch a movie in bed there is nothing better than a nice iPad or tablet to do so.

I literally have both of those two combs in question. Although I have the Pencil, I rarely use it.

iPad is better for the couch or for a weekend trip. The M1 Air is better for everything else.
