Hi folks. Does it sound to you that the speakers on the 11’ iPad Pro M2 are a bit muffled, especially in the higher frequencies? I’ve listened to some Spotify neck to neck on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone surprisingly has a lot more clarity, separation in the higher frequency range, while having only 2 speakers, instead of 4 like in the iPad Pro.

I wonder how is it possible and if anyone has noticed the same?

p.s. I’ve upgraded from the original 10.5 iPad Pro and it still sounds brighter than the 2022 model, I wonder if that’s because of the design changes through the years or something else.

In comparison with iPhone 14, iPad Pro M2 speakers are muffled at high frequencies I am also trying to figure out.

I guess just a design flaw then? Or maybe we are spoiled because of how good the iPhone 14 speakers are lol. They are truly remarkable for their size.

Still the iPad sounds a bit dull, the workaround is to use the EQ in the settings of Apple Music and Spotify, but there are no systemwide EQ, unfortunately, that would have helped a lot.

Perhaps it's a design flaw, but it doesn't matter to me since I mostly listen to music through my AirPods.

Muffled maybe, but certainly loud enough IMO. Maybe less treble. Has anyone tried the boom speaker app? I use it on my MacBook Pro and it really helps.
Edit: just checked the App Store and don’t see it being offered for the iPad. There are a lot of others tho, might check them out.

Yes it is loud i agree. Just WAY LESS treble and not as clear and separated as iPhone 14 PM despite having more speakers.

will look into these apps, thanks.

Hi bro I have the same problem as you.

After looking around I think we all have the problem, the 2018-2020 ipads did not have this problem.

Can you confirm this?

I don’t have any from 2018-2020. I do have one from 2017 and it sounds much brighter and clearer.

On a side note, new M2 MacBook Pros also sound more dull compared to M1 models. Hmm…

I think it's not a manufacturing defect, it's useless to send your iPad for repair, it's a recurrent problem with the M2.

A muffled sound and it's a pity, because the devices are at the top!

Thats odd, because, I think it was MaxTech on Youtube, who compared M1 Pro Macbook Pro speakers to M2 Pro Macbook Pro updated models and said that M2 Pro one's sound bit less pronounced/detailed in highs.

I think it has to do with the 4 speakers that it has.

Since I got the device, I have noticed that when playing sound, all 4 sets of speakers will play the same sound, but a little quietly. You can test this by tilting your head so one of your ears is pointed to the iPad, and you will hear a mildly quieter stereo-like sound, while turning it again to face it directly will feel a lot more three-dimensional. This is surround sound, since this combo of sounds coming out of all the speakers makes you feel immersed in the sound, which is why it may feel "muffled", because you're expected to feel like you're where the sound is, and prioritizes quality over clarity.

The iPhone only has 2 speakers, so it emits stereo sound, which plays the same sound at the same volume on both speakers, and is less immersive. This has a bonus of being easier to grasp and hear, but a side effect of having less pure sound quality.

Neither the iPad or iPhone speakers are inherently bad/worse, it just depends on what you're looking for in a listening experience. I personally like the iPad speakers, but some people may prefer a simple sound like the iPhone has.

I had to send the product back when I received it, because the speaker sound is so bad that I thought it was a product defect, but then I came across this forum and realised that it is a general one.

A disappointing point, as disappointing as the camera in FaceTime which is not correctly oriented in landscape mode.

I would say that stereo sound is more pure, not less pure. All this surround sound stuff is processed and fake. It may sound cool but it's less pure to the source.

Well, yeah. I accept your opinion. Maybe if there was an option to disable the special surround sound and have all speakers play at a good volume, then everyone could be happy. For the time being, I think it's pretty neat.

Thought at first my M1 iPad Pro was a little quiet, but then it’s not meant to be a boom box 😂 Realised how good it sounds when my cat kept looking at the back of the room when playing music. Did the same, had to rewind - thought there was something behind us!
